“He’s off the phone now.”
Kade pretended to take a long drink of beer, then stood, stretched his arms over his head, and loudly belched. He opened the cabin door and as soon as Duke followed him inside, he closed it behind them, and then leaving Duke in the cabin, he went out the back. From there, he slipped into the woods, coming up behind Cupcake. Expecting him, his teammate didn’t flinch when Kade put his hand on Cupcake’s shoulder to let him know he was here.
“Party time,” he quietly said.
Like a well-oiled machine, they came up behind the two bouncers without making a sound. Believing Kade was inside the cabin they just had to keep an eye on, the two fools were talking about a new stripper at the club, arguing over whether her tits were real or fake.
Kade and Cupcake exchanged eye rolls, then Kade nodded. As though enacting a choreographed maneuver, they materialized in front of the bouncers, their weapons aimed at the men before either of them could react.
“One sound, and it will be the last one you make,” Kade said. “You.” Kade looked at the man on the right with the assault rifle. “Slow and easy, set your gun on the ground, then slide it toward to me. One wrong move, and I will shoot you.” Once his order was obeyed, he said, “Lock your hands behind your head.” He shifted his gaze to the other man. “Now you. The gun in your hand and the one at your waist, then hands locked behind your head. Same warning.”
When both the men’s guns were on the ground close to him, he said, “My teammate’s going to search you. You know the drill. Spread your feet and keep your hands where they are. I’m not joking around when I say I will kill you if you try anything.” He nodded at Cupcake.
Cupcake moved behind them, stuck his gun in his waistband, patted one down, then the other. He found an ankle gun on both of them.
“You,” he said to the one on the right again. “Hands behind your back.” When that one’s hands were secured with zip ties, he repeated the command to the other one.
Once their prisoners were locked down, Kade picked up their weapons. “Follow me. My teammate will be walking behind you. He’d love to shoot you as much as I would, so try anything, utter a sound for any reason, and you won’t live to see tomorrow. That’s a fact.”
He glanced at Cupcake, almost laughing at the disappointment on Cupcake’s face that these two bozos had folded faster than a hand of bad cards.
Kade led them deeper into the woods to where Chase was waiting for them. “They’re all yours, brother.”
Chase would guard them while he and Cupcake went to help Viper round up the bikers. He knew that Chase would give anything to be in on the takedowns, but Chase understood that Kade, Viper, and Cupcake had years behind them of working as a team.
“Welcome to my accommodations, gentlemen,” Chase said with an evil grin.
Kade laughed as he walked away. As planned, they’d left the cell phones on the two men for now. Chase would make sure the phones stayed in their pockets.
“Headed your way, Viper.”
“Can’t miss me. Just head for all the racket these jokers are making.”
“Foxy lady, you good?”
“Affirmative. Ready to kick some ass.”
He chuckled. “That’s my girl.” Next to him, Cupcake smirked, and Kade scowled at him. “Just a figure of speech.”
“Uh-huh.”
He ignored that. To protest would only invite more smirks. They crossed the yard and entered the woods on the other side of the cabin. “Viper, your location?”
Viper gave them his coordinates. “These dumbasses are lost. First they went the wrong way and now they’re going in circles.”
That explained why the coordinates were a surprise. “We’ll double-time it and catch up with you in ten.”
A shot rang out about seven minutes later. “That wasn’t Viper’s gun,” Cupcake said.
“I know. Viper, sitrep.”
“Fucking clowns. One of them tripped over a log and his shotgun went off.”
God save them from fools. “We can hear them yelling at each other now, so we’re close.” These jokers weren’t trying to keep their voices down. “Where are you in relation to them?”
“The east side, between them and you.”
“Good. See you in about three.” When he and Cupcake reached Viper, the bikers were stationary, arguing over which way to go. “Let’s surround them before they get on the move again.”
