"I did not randomly find you after the war, Huntyr. I knew who your mother was. I knew who you were."
I was going to throw up.
"You knew who I was this entire time." My voice sounded foreign. Not mine. Dazed.
The door burst open behind me, and I found Wolf standing there, flabbergasted and winded, eyes wild as he took in the situation.
"What in all hells is going on here?" he spat.
"You might as well join us," Asmodeus chimed in from the back. "Huntyr was just getting acquainted with the male who raised her. It’s a joy, really! A reunion to celebrate!"
Wolf looked at me.
Then Lord.
Then me again.
Lightning erupted in his eyes, and all chaos broke loose.
Chapter 34
Wolf
Iwas moving before I could think. Before I could breathe. Before I could focus.
My power flared around me, stronger than it had been in months, fueled by the anger and hatred and confusion I felt at the sight of him.
I knew who he was before Asmodeus opened his mouth. The way he looked at her like she was his property, the way Huntyr looked at him like he just ripped her heart out and shattered it to pieces...
I launched myself at the pathetic excuse of a man, my magic flaring all around me, buzzing in the air. Huntyr screamed as I tackled him with my hands at his throat. We both fell, but he rolled me over until my back was to the ground, my still-healing scars pressing into the stone.
"You better learn how to respect visitors in your own damn house, boy," Lord hissed.
I grunted, my power cracking in the air around us as I flipped him over, regaining control. "What in the hells do you know about respect?" Huntyr was screaming something, but I heard nothing over the roaring in my ears. "Only a sick son of a bitch would hurt a woman like that."
Lord laughed beneath me. "Imadeher strong. Imadeher who she is."
I squeezed tighter, forcing the air from his lungs. I wanted him to die. Fuck, I waited on this moment for so damn long.
But pain split through my temple. I lost my concentration for a single moment, long enough for Lord to push me off him and scramble back up to his feet.
"Enough of this," Asmodeus chimed in. His hand was held out toward me; he was the one inflicting this piercing pain in my head. "Can we all discuss things like the mature adults we are? Or would you rather us ruin the entire damn equinox celebration?"
I didn't dare mention that I didn't give a fuck about the celebration. Neither did Huntyr.
I pushed myself back to my feet and glanced at her, but she didn't look at me. Lord, either. She stared somewhere between us, neither here nor there, with eyes glossed over and lips parted slightly while she breathed.
“What is he doing here?” I asked. I could barely fucking look at him. I wanted to make him suffer for every scar on her perfect, pale skin. I wanted to make him feel every ounce of the pain he inflicted upon her.
“I came here to support Huntyr,” Lord answered.
“And how do you two know each other exactly?” I motioned to the space between Lord and my father.
Huntyr’s emotions overpowered the bond—her hurt, her betrayal, the sheer sickness she felt in the pit of her stomach. It was all mine now too, all of it mixed together in an unstoppable force.
It was like Huntyr already knew the answer to the question.
“Listen,” my father started. “Lord wanted to ensure Huntyr would be protected.”
