I shake my head, moving far from him. “You're such a temptation.”

“Me? You're one to talk when all I can imagine is your legs wrapped around me.”

My cheeks heat and I look away, focusing on the front door of my house. Memories of the past few months come rushing back. We've had to live through so much already. I'm just glad things are back to normal, or as normal as they can be.

“For what it's worth, your aunt is going to be so happy to see you tomorrow,” Nate chuckles. “A lot of people are waiting for you to return.”

We both get out of the car and walk toward the apartment. “This is it,” I say once we reach my door.

“Looks like it,” he chuckles. Nate snakes his arm around my waist and draws me in. He pauses just before my lips, but kisses me deeply.

My legs turn to jelly and everything around me starts to fade away. I fall into the kiss with everything I have, wishing it will never end. Sadly, we eventually part. The looks we give each other make it appear like we'll never see each other again, even though we'll meet tomorrow morning.

“I guess I'll see you at work tomorrow.”

“Or hear me out here, we could just spend another day at my house. What's one more day going to hurt?”

I open my mouth to protest, but the wrong words come out. “Yes, let's go.”

Nate scoops me up from the porch in a flash. I'm in his car before I even realize it, and he wastes no time speeding away.

Chapter 33

NATE

“I've got the files ready,” Madeline says, turning the stack of papers to me. “The ones on top are for the Garby assets, but you only have to look through and sign on the first three.”

I watch Madeline as she rambles on, unable to wipe the goofy grin off my face. She catches the look I'm giving her after her entire briefing.

“What?” she asks.

“How did I ever get anything done without you?”

“I don't know, but you better learn it fast,” Madeline laughs. It's supposed to be a joke, but the gentle reminder that our summer together is about to come to an end rams into me like a raging bull.

I manage to keep a smile on my face, though. It's going to take me a lot of practice.

Madeline glances at the clock. “It's time for lunch already. Are you sure you don't want to come with me and Olivia?”

I shake my head. “No, you two have fun. I'll see you when you get back.”

Madeline goes around my desk and approaches my chair. She sits down on me fully, leaning in until our lips barely touch. “Are you sure you don't want to join us?”

I pull her into a long kiss, savoring the amazing taste of her tongue. Madeline leans in, forgetting she has somewhere to be.

Her fingers travel through my hair and once she gets a good grip, she uses it to pull me closer. She moans softly into my mouth, smiling all the way.

“Who needs lunch when I could just have you?” she says.

There's a knock on the door that moves us apart. Madeline stands up just as Olivia opens the door. Her eyes widen when she sees my mate wiping her lips.

“Oh shit, sorry,” Olivia apologizes. “I can come back—”

“No, it's chill. I'm ready to go,” Madeline says. She gives me one last peck on the lips before leaving with her friend. I settle into the chair, already missing the feeling of my mate on top of me.

My smile falters when her words travel into my mind again. She's going to be gone soon.

I slap myself mentally. I can't believe it took me this long to acknowledge and accept my feelings for her. Now, she's about to head back to school and here I am, already missing her.
