Terrified, Costa picked her up while the assassin shoved Makissa’s body into the flat crevice.
Nice going, bitch. What part ofthe assassins are hiding among the candidatesdidn’t you understand?!
Twenty-Nine
Off Course
Nadzia
“You will not succeed,” Costa snapped at their abductor as she trudged across the arid landscape with her slung over her shoulder.
Are you freaking kidding me! Of course, lizard lips is going to succeed. You’re waltzing him past where the drones are filming and leading him straight to the arena.
“Silence. Move,” the reptile in disguise barked.
Agreed. It’s a little too late to grow a pair, she huffed in frustration, as she stared at the weapons the reptile held in each fist.
Even if she could get one of the disruptors, that still left another two strapped to his chest. Not that she could move. And it didn’t help they hadn’t bothered to follow the shade and her head and back felt like they were burning.
“Stop wiggling.” Costa jostled her.
“Just put…” she stopped, realizing she could talk. “Just put me down,” she croaked.
“Fine.” Costa released her and she slid off the woman’s shoulder then collapsed on the hard ground.
“Get up!” The assassin snarled at her. “Jyk’s not paying me nearly enough,” the bastard mumbled to himself.
She got up on wobbly legs. “I’m up.”
The reptile goaded them forward with his disrupter. Carefully she walked, trying not to twist her ankle, the pins and needles in her limbs making it hard.
“Your life is forfeit if you don’t move faster.” Their captor jabbed her in the back.
“What do you want with the Premiere Servant?” she asked even though she already knew.
Despite the risk, she needed to get the assassin talking.
“He’s interfered in Jurou Biljana affairs too many times. The Osivoire act as if they rule this entire sector,” the bastard spat.
“Because they do.” Costa glared at the reptile.
“Silence.” The assassin pointed a disruptor at Costa’s head.
“Ah, yes. The Premiere Servant’s ego is immense. He infiltrated my planet and abducted me,” Nadzia agreed with her captor.
She glared at Costa when the woman opened her mouth to object.Ugh, Costa, you are so dense. At least the woman had good sense to close her mouth again.
“I’m not a fool. We know one of your people is being healed in their infirmary.” The assassin shoved her.
These scaly fuckers had abused her sister, murdered Makissa and were threatening to kill the man she loved. She let the overwhelming anger override her fear, came to an abrupt halt, and turned to face the murderous bastard, staring him square in the eyes.
“They’re healing our military commander so he can be questioned. And I’m the leverage to get him to talk. Look what they’re forcing me to do. I’m not cut out for this! But my will won’t be broken,” she growled defiantly.
The reptile eyed her suspiciously. She needed more to convince him. Nadzia grabbed her flask. The Trial was obviously shot to hell. She was parched and needed a second to think. She was about to take a sip but paused, seeing the way the assassin eyed it.
“You want this? No, you need this, don’t you?” She extended the tiny canteen toward him.
The reptile in disguise growled and snatched it from her. “Move.”
