Lightning quick he was out of bed, tossed the blanket over Nadzia and grabbed his suit from the foot of the bed.

“Hey!” Nadzia whispered and shook her bound arms.

Vasta! He cursed and swiftly shred the scrap of fabric before taking off for the washroom.

Nadzia snorted but he didn’t have time to figure out why.

“Oh, little one, you look terrible,” Bregma declared when she entered the room.

Aculus rubbed a hand over his face in frustration and embarrassment as he hid. He should’ve expected someone would come check, after he didn’t return to the party. He’d barely made it into the washroom in time.

“I’ll be okay,” Nadzia replied.

“Are you sure? I don’t remember your cheeks being so red,” Bregma insisted.

“Well, I did have a stabbing sensation low in my stomach earlier, but it’s gone away,” Nadzia coughed, except he knew it was a laugh.

His mouth gaped.She’s totally rotten.

“Thankfully you’re feeling better. Perhaps it was just something you ate. Aculus was supposed to come check on you,” Bregma said.

“He did. I bet he’s hiding around here somewhere,” Nadzia replied and he nearly choked.

She knew he was listening and was doing all of this to antagonize him.

“You’re probably right. That male never has liked these sorts of events,” Bregma agreed. “Would you like some water?”

He heard Bregma approach and frantically looked around for someplace to hide in the washroom but there was none.

“Well…” Nadzia drew out the word.

Seriously, female! He glared toward the door as Bregma’s footsteps got closer.

He glanced down at himself. His shell had extended again to shield his quick, but it was doubtful he could dress before Bregma got here.

“No, you know what, I’m okay. Thank you, though,” Nadzia finally said, giving him a reprieve.

He sighed hearing Bregma retreat.

“Very well. If you’d like, I can stay with you,” Bregma offered.

She was always so kind. That’s why she was his favorite. But in this case, she was being too kind. He held his breath, wondering how Nadzia was going to torture him now.

“No, that’s okay. I’m going to go to sleep soon. It’s been along, hardday,” Nadzia replied and he rolled his eyes to the ceiling.

“I understand,” Bregma said

No, you don’t.

“Try to get some rest,” the matron added.

“Thank you for checking on me,” Nadzia replied.

“Of course. Just alert one of the guards if you need anything.”

He waited for the sound of Bregma shutting the door before emerging from the washroom.

“You are hilarious,” he commented wryly.
