“How about you go harass your own conclave?” Bregma dragged Merus to his newly enlarged conclave.
“Look at how Umerus is smiling at him. I think Merus may discover his weakness sooner than expected.” Aculus gestured to the couple.
“I think you’re right,” she agreed.
Now she understood what Umerus was hesitant to reveal in the garden. It made sense, Umerus had spent a lot more time around Merus than Aculus.
“They’re cute,” she added and smiled.
“He certainly didn’t waste any time asking her.” Aculus grinned back at her.
“You know what I want to see,” Tellar said as he approached.
“Patrem! You’re as bad as Merus,” Aculus barked.
She started laughing. It was more than evident the three were related.
“Don’t encourage him.” Aculus glared at her, although a smile threatened, making his lips twitch.
“Come on, I’m waiting,” Tellar insisted.
“This is the last time,” Aculus countered.
“I hope not.” Tellar grimaced.
“You know what I mean!” Aculus shoved his father, making Tellar laugh.
Nadzia giggled as she put her hand back on Aculus’ cheek, making his shell recede again.
“You knew what I meant.” Aculus cupped her cheek.
“I do.” This had been happening all evening. “It’s actually a lot like a custom we have at Earth weddings. People make the couple kiss over and over.”
“I will give you a traditional human wedding if that’s what you want.” Aculus caressed her cheek.
“I would love to see this tradition,” Tellar chimed in.
“It’s not so different from this. We have a minister or official that makes a big speech and announces the couple.” She glanced across the room at the cleric who’d officially recorded their bond just an hour ago. “And then we have a party.”
“Good. I want you to be happy.” Aculus pulled her close.
“I am. And I really appreciate the Conclave for postponing this.” She squeezed Tellar’s hand.
The last pronouncement party had to be cancelled after they questioned Jyk and learned the disturbing news.
“I’m glad we waited. This is much better. A female’s conclave should be part of this auspicious day.” Tellar nodded toward the crowd.
This really was the perfect occasion. A giddy feeling overwhelmed her as her sisters approached. Providence, Abby, their men, and all the friends she’d made since this wild ride began had come to Osi for the celebration.
“We’re stealing our sister,” Abby informed Aculus and Tellar.
“We’ll return her later.” Providence snagged her arm and they pulled her away.
“Please try to stay out of trouble,” Aculus said while trying to look stern as he released her.
“I alwaystry,” she called over her shoulder.
Both Aculus and Tellar laughed, making her grin. Seeing them get along brought her immense joy.
