Like seriously, Daddy. Go to sleep so you don’t see the naughtiness I’m about to get into.
“It’s so early,” he protested.
“You were in the sun all day long,” she pointed out. “And then, like you said, I zapped your energy.”
He laughed. “Both of those statements are true. You don’t want to stay the night with me?” A few seconds passed before he added, “No pressure.”
She quickly finished dressing and then got on her knees atop the bed, running her hand over Declan’s muscles as she answered, “Believe me, I want to. And maybe I can come back later. But I promised the girls I’d hang with them tonight. I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Don’t be. But this hanging out doesn’t have anything to do with Derek, does it? You aren’t going to get into trouble tonight. Right?”
Her heart sped up. Shit! How did he know? Did Daddies just have an intuition that told them when their Littles were hunting mischief?
“Of course not,” she lied. “We’re just going to the bonfire.”
“Maybe I’ll see you there,” he said.
She gulped.
Crap! You lied to Daddy! Get it together, Maisie.
“Maybe,” she said. “We’ll be there and all over. Just doing some of the late-night stuff.” She smiled and leaned down to kiss him.
“If I don’t see you tonight, we’ll get together in the morning before I start work. Sound good?” Declan asked her.
“Sounds perfect,” she told him.
They kissed again before she left the cabin. With any luck he’d fall right to sleep and wouldn’t go looking for her.
She felt so guilty as she hurried along the path toward her own cabin.
You aren’t cheating on him or anything. It’s not that big of a deal.
Maisie smiled. She’d never cheat. No, her date was with naughtiness.
It was time to settle the score.

The Littles were dressed in the darkest colors they had. Which wasn’t very dark, considering they’d packed for a fun week of summer camp.
But with the sun fully down now, and the trees thick, they were able to conceal themselves well enough.
“You think there are any snakes in these woods?” Sophia whispered.
“I think the altitude is too high for most of them,” Naomi answered. “It gets too cold up here in the mountains.”
“I hope you’re right,” Sophia said. “I don’t want anything biting me!”
The three stayed low and waited. If they were correct, Derek and his friends would be wandering that way any time now. Of course, they could have decided to stay at the bonfire a little longer or go to the stargazing activity one of the camp counselors was leading.
But as luck would have it, Maisie could see a group of four walking down the trail now.
“That might be them,” she whispered.
A moment later, after the group got closer, she added, “False alarm.”
It was four women and none of them were the two who stole the eggs.
