“Yes, Sir. Especially when it comes to your pork chops. I love them.”
“Thank you, baby girl. We’re all done brushing out your hair, so we can go eat.”
“Yay!!”
When he bent to pick me up, I decided that I wanted to go downstairs a different way.
“Piggyback ride, please.”
He smiled down at me and agreed, hunkering down a bit with his back to me.
When we entered the kitchen, he sat me in one of the kitchen chairs. There wasalready a glass of milk there with a curly straw in it.
I loved curly straws. They were so fun to watch as the liquid went up them before entering my mouth.
“Here’s your plate, honey.”
He placed my Scooby Doo-themed plate down in front of me. It had a pork chop already cut up, some mashed potatoes, and broccoli on it. I was so hungry that I wasn’t even going to complain about having to eat the broccoli.
We ate in silence for a few minutes, both of us devouring our late dinners.
As I sat there, I thought about what I was going to do tomorrow. The truth was I had discussed with my boss about taking Christmas week off three weeks ago and she had been fine with it. She actually insisted that I did because of how hard I’ve worked this year. Despite that, I was still hoping that I could get up early tomorrow and sneak into the office for a couple of hours and be home before Daddy woke up.
I really needed to put in these last couple of extra hours. It was important for this Christmas.
“Oh, look, it’s snowing,” Drew commented.
I looked out our kitchen window at the fluffy white flakes that were falling. Hopefully, it would stop soon or else the roads would be terrible for tomorrow. I had heard on the weather report today that a big storm was supposed to hit us tonight and continue into the morning, but I was hoping that the meteorologist was wrong.
“It’s pretty.”
“Yes, it is. Are you excited for tomorrow, honey? I have a bunch of things planned. The first is to sleep in. It’ll be so nice not having to get up early to go to work.”
“Mhmm,” I mumbled, taking a sip of my milk to hide my guilty expression.
“Once we wake up, we can make cookies, play in the snow, and later, relax around a warm fire.”
“Sounds great to me.” I knew that I would have to plan tomorrow morning out carefully. No matter what, I’d have to be back at the house by ten o’clock, or else my ass would be grass.
Chapter Two
Yawning, I rolled over and put my arm over Chloe, wanting to snuggle close to her. I was about to go back to sleep when I realized I was cuddled up against a cool pillow instead of a warm wife.
Opening my eyes, I saw that she wasn’t in bed. The bathroom light wasn’t on, so she wasn’t in there. The clock read that it was five forty-five a.m. Where the heck was my wife at this hour of the morning?
Starting to get a bit worried, I leapt out of bed and headed downstairs to see if I could find her.Maybe she wasn’t feeling well and went downstairs to get something to drink, I thought as I took my final step on the stairs.
A cold breeze slammed into me before I heard Chloe whisper, “Fuck!”
Heading straight for our front door, I felt like I was experiencing déjà vu. I was stunned to see her, dressed in another one of her damned business suits, briefcase in hand, with the door wide open. I could see why she had sworn. Her right foot was covered in snow.
There had to be at least a foot and a half of snow covering the porch and more was falling.
“Shit!” she murmured to herself.
“Now I know I’ve taught you better than to use those potty mouth words.” I admonished, making my presence known as I took another step closer to her.
She spun around, her mouth gaped open.
