Page 114 of Love on Ice

I take a breather and squirt my face with water.

“Would you stop letting them get into your head,” my brother hisses.

“Fuck you, I’ve got this under control,” I tell him.

“I don’t think you do. You’re missing simple passes.”

“I know, okay. But I’ve got this.”

“You better,” he warns me.

I skate back on the ice, and Dave from LA slams me right into the barriers. “Wonder if your new woman likes being shared?Who am I kidding? Of course she does, her nudes are all over the internet.” He chuckles before skating off. What the fuck did he say? Are they messing with me? I skate after the puck, take my chance, and score a fucking goal.

“In your face,” I say to my old teammates.

“Like your woman’s tits are in everyone’s faces,” Stephen says.

“What the fuck did you say?” I skate over and barge into him.

“Oh no, you don’t know.” Stephen bursts out laughing. I push him again, and I can hear the whistles of the refs, but I ignore them, take off my helmet, and I can hear the crowd surge with the threat of violence. I rush toward Stephen, who quickly throws off his helmet, which makes the crowd go crazy because they know they are about to get a spectacle.

“Don’t you ever speak about her like that.” I lay my fists into his face.

“Her nudes are all over the fucking internet,” he screams at me.

“Liar.” I continue to pummel him.

“I’ve seen them. She’s fucking hot. Good work,” he says as his fist meets my cheek, shuddering my teeth.

“Fuck you. You can’t handle that I’m happy,” I scream at him.

“With a whore,” he yells back, and that’s when everything goes red as I lose it. I use all my strength to lay into him.

“Cyn’s the fucking whore. You know she fucks Dave and Aleksander and whoever else goes to their sex parties,” I scream at him.

“What the fuck,” he curses.

“She's cheating on you with them,” I yell at him.

“You fucking lying asshole,” Stephen screams, and the next thing I know, Stephen clocks me a good one and I go down.

And down hard.

My head hits the ice.

And everything goes black.

HARPER

Iscream as I watch Felix hit the ice hard.

The entire stadium goes quiet as Felix lies motionless on the ice. Pierre skates over and you can hear the worry in his voice. Moments later, the medics arrive and then someone brings out a stretcher because he’s not moving.

“Felix. No. No.” I scream at the TV. Everything in my life stops in that moment as I pray that he wakes up and shrugs off what just happened. Instead, there is nothing but hushed gasps as the medics move him onto the stretcher.

“I have to go. I have to be with him. I can’t lose him. I’ve only just found him. I love him,” I scream into the room.
