“Your tone.”

“It would be weird, but that’s beside the point. Harper, like you, has just gotten her heart broken. I think with you moving to New York, you being my client, and her and I being friends, I want her to have fun and not worry about running into someone from the island back at home. You become another person there. She might not feel like she could be free.” Interesting. But I get what she means.

“Don’t worry, I’m giving Harper her space. It’s nice being able to hang out with someone and do something that isn’t sex. Because I’m already exhausted.”

“Ewww, Felix.” Issy groans. “Anyway, enough about Harper. What I was calling about was I got your email from Cynthia’slawyers about demanding the house. The audacity of that woman.”

“Yeah. I feel like she might be blackmailing me. I spoke to Harper about it, and she said something about finding out some info on her to keep in my back pocket in case I might need it.”

“You spoke to Harper about it?” Issy asks.

“Yeah, I ran into her and didn’t have anyone else to confide in at that moment,” I explain.

“I know who she's talking about. If there is anything in Cynthia’s past they will find it. What else did she say?” Issy asks.

“That she’s worried Cynthia might try to paint me as the villain in her and Stephen’s love story.”

“Harper is brilliant at PR, she knows how people tick. If she thinks they might go low then we should be ready for it,” Issy states.

“I don’t want to fight with them,” I tell her.

“I’m not going to let her take your home either,” Issy advises angrily.

“I’m not returning to LA, so …” I say with a shrug she can’t see.

“You bought it before her, she has no claim over it.”

“If I fight her on this it could end up being a bigger mess than just giving her the house. This kind of bad press could get my contract canceled.”

“I would never let that happen,” Issy says.

“I know. But I’m already on thin ice with The Mavericks, I don’t want this to ruin it.”

“Let’s see what Harper can dig up for us before you need to give them an answer.” Urgh. Now I’m stressed out. Maybe I should order a massage with my lunch. “Shit. I’ve got to go, I have another call. Have fun and enjoy the break.” With that, she’s gone.

I take a seat and hang my head in my hands. How the hell did I end up here? Just as I’m about to spiral, there’s a knock at the door. I haven’t had time to order lunch yet, unless Sunny subconsciously knows I’m hungry and horny. I mean, I wouldn’t put it past this place. Standing up, I walk over to my front door, and I’m surprised to see Harper standing there wearing a sexy black slip, looking up at me all innocent as fuck.

“Surprise,” she says, waving her hands awkwardly at me.

“I am surprised. Come on it.” I hold open the door. She walks in and that’s when I notice she’s not even wearing shoes. Is everything okay?

“Good surprise, I hope.” She giggles.

“Seeing you is always good,” I tell her, closing the door behind me. “I haven’t had time to order lunch yet. Would you like to join me?” I ask her.

“Oh. Yeah. Is that okay?”

My brows pull together as I look her up and down looking like sin. “Unless there was another reason you came over?” I question her.

“Maybe.”

Wow. Wasn’t expecting her to answer truthfully. “And what would that reason be?”

She nibbles her bottom lip. “I think you know.”

I want to see her squirm. “I don’t think I do.”

Those blue eyes narrow on me. “I wanted to hang out …”
