Page 110 of Intercept My Heart

Would you mind picking the boys up from Tamia’s house tonight?

Baby Daddy:

I can, but where are you going?

Me:

I have a date tonight, and I’m not sure what time I’ll be coming home. I don’t want Tamia to have to keep them overnight because she may have plans.

It took a few minutes for him to respond, but when he did, my heart sank.

Baby Daddy:

Alright. I’ll get them.

My chest ached from his reaction, but I guess I had to own my part in it. Had I not pushed him away, I probably wouldn’t be going through this.

“I texted him.”

“What did he say?”

“He said he’ll get them.”

“Talk to him! The two of you have already missed out on so much time. Stop holding your feelings in and be honest with him.”

“You’re right. We’ve played enough games, and I don’t want to do it anymore. I want my man back.”

“Period. Let that man know what it is.” I’d spent my entire life being cautious, and I didn’t want to live like that anymore.

“I’ll talk to y’all later. I don’t want to cancel on Bryce because he’s a really nice guy. I’m gonna go on this date and go talk to Dinero.”

“Okay, boo. Let us know how it goes.”

“Love you!”

“Love you too.”

An hour passed, and Bryce should have been here by now. I picked up my phone to text him when I noticed an incoming call from him.

“Hey, are you here?” There was silence on the other end of the line, so I pulled the phone back to make sure the call hadn’t got disconnected.

“Hey, Charae. I’m gonna take a raincheck on our dinner date.” His voice shook, causing me to grew concerned.

“Is everything alright? Did something come up?”

“Uh, yeah. I t-think you’re a really beautiful woman, but I don’t think we should see each other.”

“Did something happen?”

“N-no, I just don’t think this is a good idea anymore.”

“Oh, okay. No worries. Well, I appreciate your honesty. Thank you for letting me know.” Something felt off, but I had no idea how to address it. There were no hard feelings on my end, but it seemed very odd that he called me the way he did.

Shrugging my shoulders, I debated whether I should change my clothes. I didn’t want to let the night go to waste, but at the same time, the idea of ordering tacos and settling in my bed sounded much better. Before I could walk back up the stairs, I heard the sound of my front door opening. I was stunned to see Dinero sauntering into the house. When I checked behind him, I noticed a car speeding away. My eyebrows dipped as I tried to figure out what was going on.

“What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to take you on a date.” He shrugged as if his statement made all the sense in the world.
