Lure

Of all the dreams I’d ever chased, the last thing I expected was for a nightmare to be the one that came true.

I’m no stranger to survival. I’ve always acted a lot tougher than I am, but I’m a big believer in fake it until you make it. But even I couldn’t imagine the relentless pursuit of my former kidnappers, and the only thing standing in their way are four calculating and dangerous men.

Each time I think I’ve found some measure of relief, a new danger threatens to suffocate me. It’s not just about who I can trust anymore. No, everyone has an agenda—even me. Why else would I find myself attracted to the men who are keeping me prisoner?

More unsettling, these handsome, complicated men with fire in their eyes that burns hot and cold, do not appear to be in any hurry to let me go. It’s not up to them. It can’t be.

Not when I need answers. Not when I need to find my sister. Not when every moment that passes is an eternity that pushes her farther and farther away from me. I refuse to bow to anyone or anything.

I’d rather end up a casualty of the hunt than be kept hostage “for my own good” no matter how sexy my jailers are. In this twisted tableau of danger, desire, and deceit, I will take any risk to find her no matter what it costs me.

Foreword

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the second of five books in the Blood Brothers series. This is a series that should be read in order so if you have not read Burn, please pause and begin there. If you are curious about where the Blood Brothers story came from, I shared some background on that in the foreword of Burn.

Previously in Blood Brothers, model Grace Black found herself kidnapped by a human trafficking operation. While there, she endured assaults, but cooperated while she looked for a way out. When another group attacked the one that had her, she was kidnapped again. This time, she woke on a truck with others being transported to somewhere. When the truck was stopped and they were tacitly rescued, she is introduced to the team that will take them all home.

Two members, Lunchbox and Alphabet escort her to her place in New York. She spends most of it worried about her twin sister Amorette who is also missing. Or so she believes. The guys drop her off at her place but keep watch. When a team shows up to reacquire her, they take out the team and help her escape.

After rendezvousing with their team, the guys urge her to rest. Then one of the team members—Voodoo—takes her on tothe next destination. He is also checking to see if she is being tracked. Bones, the group leader, made this call because he recognized the interest Alphabet and Lunchbox had in her.

After avoiding another hit team, Voodoo takes Grace to a clinic and a physician who locates the tracker in her back and removes it. Emotionally spent and deeply upset, she is beginning to collapse under her own trauma. Voodoo helps to distract her and they have sex.

Bones rejoins them the following day and he’s annoyed. They are pursued by another group, that they then have to eliminate. Finally, they reach Alphabet and Lunchbox at a small airport. Together, the guys take her to their place in Montana. They aren’t giving her a lot of answers and she’s struggling.

She attempts an “escape” and they have to get her down. She and Bones clash frequently. Alphabet’s dog Goblin is a source of great comfort for her. When a mission is moved up, the group leaves for Mexico with Grace in tow. Though they keep her at a distance from the action, she encounters an attacker in the barn at their remote location and only Alphabet is still present. She can’t scream to warn him.

That brings us to now.

Please be aware this book contains content with dark themes and intense situations intended for mature audiences only, including but not limited to: sexual assault, dubious consent, physical violence, emotional and mental abuse, as well as kidnapping, stalking, manipulation, and other potentially triggering topics.

And now, as always, the housekeeping notes:

For those of you who have never read a why choose, or reverse harem before, first let me thank you for picking this up and giving it a shot. Second, the heroine will not make a choice in this book or any other between the guys in her life. It may take her a while to reach that conclusion, but it’s the journey thatdrives it. There are many ways to frame this kind of relationship, currently why choose fits it very well.

I’ll see you on the flip side.

xoxo
