“Tell her about the island,” Salma said to Abia.

“What island?” Maddy asked.

“We were held prisoner on an island. We were never told where it is, but it is either the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean,” Abia said.

“Okay. What happened there?”

“This Zane, an evil man,” Salma said continuing, “kept us there like we were prizes. Like property for him to admire.”

“Did he hurt you? Did he ever rape you?” Maddy asked.

“No, never,” Salma said.

“We expected him to, him and his friends. Men he brought to the island,” Abia added.

“He would show us off to them like we were prized animals,” Salma said. “We expected to be used like all of the others.”

“What others?” Maddy asked.

“Young girls and even some boys. They were brought to the island to be used and abused by Zane and his friends. Rich men from Mexico, South America and North America,” Abia said.

“Some from Europe and Islamic countries, too,” Salma said.

“Good, God,” Maddy muttered.

Abia looked at Salma and said, “Tell her what happened to them.”

“When these men were done raping, beating, and abusing them, they were let go on the island. The men drove around chasing them down, hunting and killing them,” Salma told her.

Maddy stared at them not wanting to believe what she was hearing. How could this happen? Who could be so sadistic as to do such a thing?

“Their bodies were taken out to sea and thrown to the sharks,” Salma said.

“No,” Maddy quietly said shaking her head in disbelief.

“Yes. We saw these things. We could see them being hunted and the bodies loaded into a boat. When the boat came back, the bodies were gone,” Salma said.

Maddy could feel the blood rushing to her head. She was sure her face must have been beet red with the fire she was burning.

“That does it,” she quietly said to no one in particular. “Zane or Cal or whatever he calls himself is not getting away with this.”

“Are you going to kill him, please?” Abia excitedly asked.

“Killing is too good for him. Too easy, too quick. No, he’s coming back to face justice. Let’s go,” Maddy replied.

While the compound guards were loading up to go search the west side of the lake, Zane went inside to change clothes. By the time he returned the search party was gone. Evan was standing next to the only vehicle still available; a black Range Rover parked a few feet from where the forest started.

“Sir,” Evan said when Zane joined him. “We should get out of here now. We don’t know how much of a head start the women have and if we don’t track them down…”

“We better be out of the country,” Zane said. “I agree. We’ll pack just enough for a couple of days and get to an airport.”

Instead of answering him, Evan yelled at the precise moment they heard the shot.

“Goddamn,” he yelled while collapsing to the ground grabbing his right knee.

A startled and confused Zane watched him fall, his mouth open, not quite sure what had just happened. While Evan began writhing in pain on the ground, Zane saw a figure come out of the trees.

Maddy had shot Evan behind his right knee literally blowing it apart. The man would never walk right again. She almost casually came out of the trees and walked the fifteen feet to the two of them.
