“Maddy has a report to make on Naomi Beyers,” Marc told Connie, “She and Sherry met with her yesterday.”
“Good, bad?” Connie asked referring to the consequences to their case.
“Not helpful,” Marc replied.
He leaned back toward Connie’s open door and yelled, “Hey, your Highness! When it’s convenient would you care to join us?”
“You know how to live dangerously. Either that or your libido isn’t working,” Connie said.
“Are you kidding? I could use the rest,” Marc told her.
“Getting old? Remember, she hasn’t even reached her peak yet,” Connie said while Maddy closed the door.
“Peak of what?” she asked sitting down.
“Sex drive,” Connie answered.
“What did you say this time?” Maddy asked giving Marc a severe look.
“Why is it you always assume it’s something I’ve said?”
“Because it is.”
“He needs a good night’s rest,” Connie said.
“Oh, poor baby. Mommy wearing you out?” Maddy sarcastically asked.
Marc looked at Connie and asked, “See what you started? Thanks.”
“Tell me about Naomi,” Connie said to Maddy.
When Maddy finished, Connie looked at Marc and said, “Well, we shouldn’t be surprised. Has she been contacted by Lori Quinn?”
“Yes,” Maddy answered. “She’s meeting with the investigator today.”
“We’ll look for her name on the witness list,” Marc said.
“And a whole bunch of others before this is over,” Connie said.
“I think we should meet with Melanie,” Marc told Connie.
“When,” Connie asked.
“Today if she can meet us,” Marc said. “My calendar is open, and it gives me an excuse to put off going through more discovery.”
“I can’t make it today. I have a funeral to go to,” Connie said.
“Kind of sudden,” Marc said.
“You know us Jews. We like to get them in the ground as soon as possible,” Connie replied.
“You should be a Christian. You’re the most irreverent person I know,” Marc said. “Who’s the guest of honor?”
“Marc! And you think Connie’s not respectful,” Maddy said.
“Some old gal from synagogue,” Connie said.
“A friend?” Marc asked.
