Carmelle nodded as he straddled his bike, and it roared to life.
“Go!” Ghost yelled.
Carmelle pulled out with Ghost behind her. He raced ahead, checking the way was clear, and waved her to follow. Within minutes, they had hit the interstate and were heading straight for Rage. The traffic wasn’t heavy, but it was not light either. Ghost heard the sound of bikes and glanced up to see around twenty of them riding in the direction they had just come from.
They all wore Venomous Fangs cuts.
Nobody paid Ghost, a lone biker, any attention. Nor did they recognise Carmelle’s car. Ghost shook his head as he dropped back behind Carmelle to protect her ass. The entire journey had Ghost’s head on a swivel. He didn’t even relax when they pulled into Rage.
Gun out, Ghost covered Carmelle as he grabbed Shannon and raced into the clubhouse. Ghost burst through the doors, startling those inside and dragged Carmelle in.
Apache leapt to his feet with Lex and Manny, and they drew guns. Hunter moved to get the women downstairs as Blaze and Jett followed Lex and Manny.
“How many after you?” Apache demanded as Ace jogged down the stairs.
“Took two out but saw twenty on the road,” Ghostreplied.
“Put the kids and Carmelle in the kid’s playroom. It’s got bulletproof glass,” Texas ordered, appearing from a corridor.
“Don’t leave us,” Shannon shrieked, clinging to his neck.
“Baby girl, I am not going anywhere. But I gotta talk to someone. I’ll be right back, and you know I keep my promises,” Ghost replied.
“I’m scared,” Sadie cried.
“Don’t be, I swear to God, nobody here will hurt you. Let me speak to Drake, and then we’ll go get pizza!” Ghost bribed.
Carmelle snorted as both girls perked up. Ghost hauled Carmelle close and kissed her forehead. “Babe, I’ll be as quick as possible.”
“Don’t listen to Drake’s bullshit, Ghost, we don’t need him,” Carmelle whispered.
Ghost saw Texas shoot Carmelle a dark look as she remained by his side.
“What do you expect? Drake’s known about Carmelle for months and hasn’t reached out. Carmelle’s got no use for him at all,” Ghost snapped, and Texas frowned.
Ghost looked up as Ace and Drake approached. Drake wore a scowl. The bastard didn’t even try to smooth his features for the girls.
Carmelle
Well, this wasn’t what I had expected, I thought as I gazed around Reading Hall. I’d known they were rich, but this was a fucking castle.
“Bet my asshole brother loves playing king of the castle,” I stated, and Phoe chuckled.
“Drake’s always loved Reading Hall. Come on, I’ll show you to your room,” Phoe said.
“Ghost stays with me,” I demanded, and Phoe stopped.
Her gaze searched between Ghost and me, and she frowned. “Nobody will harm you here. You don’t need Ghost to protect you.”
I laughed. “I don’t know or trust any of you. What I have seen doesn’t recommend any of you. Ghost stays with me because we’re together.”
“Did you ask permission!” Phoe gasped, turning to Ghost.
“Why should he? I ain’t nothing to Rage, your husband has made that perfectly clear. Ghost doesn’t need to seek approval for anything. And if you don’t like that, we can leave,” I said.
Ghost didn’t say a word but stood a solid presence behind me.
“Fine. Let’s head to the Lilac room. It has an adjoining space for the girls, and there is also a panic room in it. If you can’t reach the basement, which is the main safe room, get in the one in your bedroom. I’ll give you the code,” Phoe explained.
