Lemon’s eyes narrowed. “What’s this now?”

I glowered at no one in particular as Fanatic explained what had been happening. Lemon’s eyes rose higher and higher.

“Seems you’ve had a rather fun-filled last few months,” Lemon said, and my mouth opened. “That was sarcasm, ASAC Ware. We can interview him about those incidents, but he doesn’t strike me as the sneaky type. Not after today.”

“No,” Fanatic agreed. “It appears to be two different methods, one blatant and one devious. I don’t think he is doing the other shit. No doubt he’s Racer1156Winner and is guilty of stalking and threats. But messing with my medication and setting April up to accuse me. No. Racer1156Winner isn’t behind those attempts.”

“I have to agree. This is the most exciting thing to happen to me in a decade,” Lemon said. “Let’s see these cars of yours. The meet seems to be winding down, I wouldn’t mind an exclusive look. Racer1156Winner can wait for me.”

Fanatic laughed. “Only too happy, detective. If you ever desire a transfer, let me know. I’m sure we could arrange something.”

“Even better, Lemon could apply for sheriff at Merritt. Inglorious has got permission for a recognised sheriff’s position and a deputy. Just like in the old days when Merritt was bustling. He’d also help Rapid City. Howser has agreed to it already.”

“How would that work?” Lemon asked.

“Basically, you’d be the Sherriff of Merritt with one deputy, but you would work with RCPD if needed. The Unwanted Bastards MC is restoring and rebuilding Merritt, and they’ll need a small police force as it’s going to be a massive tourist attraction. A chance to stay in a real-life ghost town. Something like Deadwood but without the glamour,” I explained.

“Sounds interesting,” Lemon mused.

“Here, this is Inglorious’s number. Give him a call tomorrow, and let me speak to him tonight,” I said, pulling my phone out.

Lemon took Inglorious’s number and nodded. “Thanks, Agent.”

“Call me Willow. I think we’ll be seeing a lot of each other!” I grinned, and Fanatic rolled his eyes.

“Just remember, she’s taken,” he exclaimed, snagging me by the waist.

“No problems, Fanatic. Let’s see some cars,” Lemon replied, smiling.

I hoped Inglorious and Howser liked the detective. I did; he seemed a decent guy.

Chapter Nineteen.

Fanatic

Blast, I needed to return to the house. Willow was at work; they’d landed a case, and she was busy with shit there. Jinx and I had torn the office apart looking for a design I wanted, and couldn’t find it, which meant it had to be at my home office.

“Jinx, I’m going to head to the rental. The schematic has to be there,” I announced.

“Okay, I’ll come,” Jinx replied.

“No, it’s fine, stay here,”

“Chance said you weren’t to go anywhere alone, Fanatic. That asshole is still out there,” Jinx stated, and his jaw jutted out.

“Fair enough.” I didn’t bother arguing; it wasn’t worth putting Jinx in a bad place.

Gladys was at the clubhouse today with Danny, so I didn’t have to worry about him inadvertently seeing me. The little sod had learned one word and refused to say another. Everyone was Nanna, according to Danny. Mum and Dad didn’t figurein Danny’s vocabulary. On some level, Danny understood that Ellen had risked everything for him, and he adored her. Which really put Mum’s nose out of joint.

Mum was not used to being the second-best grandparent, and she was fighting several sets of grandparents. Grey’s parents took Danny on a Saturday. Willow had been discussing letting him sleep overnight but wasn’t there yet. Both sets of Grey’s grandparents were also alive, and then there was Axel and Ellen. And Mum and Dad. Out of all of them, Axel and Ellen saw Danny the most because we were living on the Hellfire compound.

Axel and Ellen still lived in her cottage, which was a few minutes’ drive which meant Mum’s nose was right out of joint. Mum and Dad had Danny on a Friday, which they loved, but Mum wanted more. That was nice but Willow was his mom and deserved to have quality time with Danny.

Tensions were rising, and the grandparents needed to settle down. Willow and I were incredibly generous with Danny’s time.

Annoyed at myself, I headed for my bike with Jinx following, and we roared out, waving at Rascal as he opened the gates. The day was warm, with a light breeze. It was wonderful to ride, and I wanted to take a longer one, but that wasn’t possible. I needed to get this design printed and ready to paint. With the trips to hospital, it had taken a while to catch up as I’d fallen behind, and my schedule had already been tight.

Jinx and I pulled up on the drive and parked the bikes. Swinging off them, I yanked the keys from my pocket.
