Chapter Ten

TIERNEY

––––––––

The first guy I findis Colter, who is in their barn-turned-office having a meeting with four bulky ranch hands.

Memories flood my body, and my panties soak immediately at the sight of the green-eyed, grumpy Adonis. Just as well, I overpacked feminine wipes.

My discreet wave to the broody rancher through the glass partition that separates the area into reception and office goes unreciprocated. He looks up at me with a stunned expression on his face, which he quickly peels off, discards me, and resumes his meeting, like a big scary boss.

“Oh, how lovely to see you again, dear,” Marcia Ross says. Their secretary is just lovely, with her rosy cheeks, sparkling dark eyes, and her glasses perched on her nose. “Did you find your way all right the last time you were here?”

“I did, thank you,” I say, smiling broadly.

“Good. Colter won’t be long. A minute no more,” Marcia says, gesturing to the men on the other side of the glass wall with her head. “How about some tea and a slice of my signature coconut cake, yes?”

“I won’t mind if I do.”

The tea is lovely, the cake even better, and now I know all Marcia’s grandchildren’s names, their nicknames, their birthdays, and I’m going to help her unlucky-in-love great-nephew find the right one. Still, Colter James has not concluded his meeting. I’m running out of time here.

“Do you know where I can find Nolan or Jace?” I ask. Maybe they’re available.

“Nolan is out at the suppliers, dear, but should be back soon. And Jace is busy with the bulls. They’re leaving for Wyoming on Monday. Big contract with the rodeo there, so they’re very busy.”

They’re leaving on Monday? That’s fine, I console myself. I just need to catch them now. How much longer do I have to wait for Colter?

Another ten minutes go by.

“I’m sorry, dear. I have to say goodbye to you. I’m babysitting little Cricket. You’ll be okay waiting?”

“Oh, don’t worry about me. I’ll be just fine.”

“Well, lovely to see you, and I hope to see you soon again. Say hello to your mama, all right?”
