I grinned, because he was not wrong. I sipped the tea slowly. He was right, the flavors were just perfect, and it was like drinking a liquid cinnamon roll. The temperature was also just right, making it easy to drink.

Already, the tea was starting to help. My stomach calmed, and the thought of eating a little something didn’t send me hurtling toward the bathroom.

“Oh, thank you,” I said, leaning back in my chair. “This stuff is amazing. I still don’t know for sure if I’m pregnant.”

“Don’t you have, like, pregnancy tests here?”

“Um… maybe? We have those little strip thingies, I think. We were sent them by accident with our supplies last month, and I didn’t know what to do with them.”

“Well, let’s grab one! Let’s do it!”

“Shouldn’t I do this with my mate?”

“Wouldn’t it be way cooler to do it right now with your best friend, and then you can find a super special way to show him later? Besides, don’t you want to know as soon as possible?” Theo’s eyes danced with excitement, and he was bouncing again.

I groaned, because he was not wrong. I did want to know right now. And I would find a way to tell Raphael later.

“Fine, fine.”

I gulped down the rest of the tea, my stomach finally settling. Already, it was like my stomach evened out, and my skin felt better, no longer clammy and tight.

“Oh, wow. Your mom is a miracle worker.”

“She really is,” he said. “You don’t know the half of it. She’s also a certified doula. Obviously, she’s used to bear pregnancies, but I am sure she would love to help you with yours.”

Theo disappeared into the supply closet.

I suppose I should be concerned about a non-employee going through our things, but, well, he did work for the town, so I guess that wasn’t the same as a random person snooping.

“Perfect! We’ve got one.”

Theo began to follow me toward the bathroom.

I turned to him. “I think I can manage this part alone.”

He smiled so big.

“What?” I asked.

“I’m just so happy for you and Raphael. Selfishly, I’m also happy for me. I spent weeks crafting an argument for Tyler about why you should know about us. He was just about to give in. I’m sure of it.”

“I’m really glad I have you too, Theo. Soon to be Uncle Theo.”

He squealed and hugged me tight. “Exactly.Uncle Theo! Now go in there. Get this done.”

Minutes later, two lines stared back at me.

Positive.

Raphael and I were going to have little dragonets.

Chapter 15

Raphael

Hopefully, being away from my mate while I was on shift would get easier with time. More than once, I was tempted to have him sneak into the station and stay the night with me. I just wanted to hold him in my arms. We wouldn’t even be inappropriate at all. Promise.

As soon as my shift was over, I picked up my things and got ready to leave. If anyone asked me to work a double, I would lose my mind. Each passing moment I prayed the alarm wouldn’t gooff and I’d be stuck on a call. I couldn’t bear to be away from Luca any longer.
