“Yeah, sure.” I lifted my hands quickly and pushed against the gun knocking him off balance. Grabbing his wrist, I turned the barrel in his direction before he knew what was happening. “Don’t make threats you ain’t ready to see through.” With that last piece of advice, I pressed his finger to squeeze the trigger. As the shot rang out, I watched with twisted fascination as his eyes widened and he stumbled backwards until he hit the pavement. “Piece of shit.” I spat in his direction and turned to find Diesel with his foot on the chest of the third Blood Fangs member.
“You good?”
I nodded. “Never better. Ready to get the fuck outta here?”
He raised his foot and stomped down on the squirming shithead one final time. “Hell yeah. Let’s go.”
There was something about a ride after kicking some ass that just felt fucking amazing. The wind against my skin, the scenery as it whipped by, all of my senses were heightened by the rush of adrenaline. The rush of vengeance.
These fuckers wouldn’t get away with what they did—and were still doing—to Nikki. I would make sure of it.
As soon as we got back to the clubhouse, I cleaned up and went to see Nikki.
I had to.
Chapter Seventeen
Nikki
Aquick but quiet knock sounded on my front door, and I froze. My eyes darted around the room in search of something that could be used as a weapon.Against a gun, Nikki?Yeah, it was a ridiculous thought but the way the fear pulsed through me, I couldn’t think straight. After Grace left, Mia came over. But she’d gone home hours ago, and while I liked to think I was a strong, independent woman—after what happened last night at the radio station, I was a wreck. Especially when the calls started.
My phone buzzed on the sofa beside me and when the screen lit up it was a message from Logan. “It’s me. Open up.”
I released a breath I didn’t realize I was holding and dropped the phone beside me before I pushed off the sofa and opened the door for Logan. “Oh my god!” I gasped as I took in his black eye and bruises. I lowered my voice so I wouldn’t wake Livvy. “What the hell happened to you? I tried calling, but it went straight to voicemail.”
He winced lightly when I tried to brush my thumb across his jaw. “It’s nothing. I’m fine Nikki.”
“Fine?” I scoffed and yanked him inside, or rather heletme yank him inside. “You don’t look fine.” He looked damn good, but also like he’d been in a fight.
His brows dipped. “That’s not very nice.”
“You know what I’m saying. Where else are you hurt?”
Logan stood a little taller, his expression defiant as hell. “I am not hurt.”
“Okay fine.” I grabbed the hem of his t-shirt and yanked it up. “I’ll find out for myself.” What in the hell was I actually doing, stripping this man—this gorgeous man—as if he owed me any answers about anything? Ever. “Logan, what happened?”
“Nothing. Diesel and I went in search of some intel about your councilman and his buddies, and on the way home we ran into a few Blood Fangs.” He spoke so nonchalantly, as if it was no big deal. Then again, I guess it probably wasn’t a big deal to him, maybe he did get into fights every other night of the week. “Nikki,” he growled and grabbed my wrist to stop my hands from exploring.
I stopped moving but he didn’t release my wrist. “Okay. Fine. Sorry, kind of anyway.” I inhaled deeply and released it slowly. “Are you okay?”
He nodded slowly as he moved his hand around until his thumb rested on top of my pulse. “I’m a little banged up, but I’m gonna live. I promise.”
“Okay. Good.” My shoulders, hell my whole body relaxed at his words. It wasn’t until he said it that I realized just how worried I was about him—and how much I cared. Dammit. “Do you need me to patch you up or anything?”
His lips tugged to one side. “You wanna play nurse with me?”
I rolled my eyes. “If you need it.”
“I need it.” His gaze dark and filled with desire as he pulled me into his arms and kissed my forehead. “Later. Tell me about your night.”
“It was fine. Quiet mostly. Mia stopped by and we had some wine and talked. A lot. Uneventful.” I held his gaze for as long as I could and then I looked away because I had to.
Logan wasn’t fooled. He gripped my chin between his thumb and forefinger and turned me, so we were eye to eye. “Nothing else?”
I shook my head even as my body rejected the lie. “There were a few hang up calls. But it was probably just a wrong number.”
A low growl escaped, and he held me a little tighter. “They didn’t say anything?”
