When he sat up, I giggled at the way the fur covering his head stood out in all directions. Though longer than the rest of his body, it didn’t quite feel like the hair atop my own head, so I honestly wasn’t certain whether to call it fur or hair, but in any case, it was messier than usual.

Knowing last night’s activities probably had something to do with it, I grinned as I set about stroking my fingers through his fur-hair, smoothing out his tangles. He’d done the same for me last night.

His eyes fluttered shut and he released a purring-growl, a noise I’d never heard him make before, and he leaned into my touch. I allowed my nails to scratch his head as I finger-combed his hair, and the purring-growls became louder, rumbling from his chest in a steady vibration.

He reached a hand up my pajama shirt and drew slow circles on my stomach. Goosebumps rose on my arms and my head prickled with sensation. A glance at his crotch showed his cock was still rock hard. The sight caused fresh pangs of heat in my core.

Without warning, in a movement so rapid I barely had time to blink, he grabbed me and flipped me on my back, then covered me with his body. His firm shaft rested between my legs, and he thrust forward, hitting my pussy overtop the fabric of my pajama pants.

“Montikaan males always take their females from behind,” he said, a thoughtful look falling over him, “but I am starting to think this might be an enjoyable position. I could surge deep into your pussy, sweet human, and claim you as mine.”

What happened next was a shortened version of our porch shenanigans. He brought me to a release twice with his tongue, and I cried out his name as I shattered. I did the same for him, sucking him as deep as I could take him in my mouth, then swallowing as much of his minty essence as I could manage.

Afterward, I indulged in a long, hot shower, wondering if it would be some time until I had access to familiar human bathing facilities. Not that I wasn’t able to stay clean at Brutus’s home. I enjoyed soaking in the private hot spring in the cavern, and now I found myself hoping he would start joining me. I’d refused to let him do so before, but only because I’d wanted to maintain my modesty, and I hadn’t wanted to encourage his advances. Plus, I’d felt plain shy about getting naked in his presence.

But given the intimacies we’d shared last night and this morning, bathing together wouldn’t be a big deal. It could also be fun and perhaps bring us closer.

I flushed as I imagined him bathing me with the homemade eucalyptus-scented soap his people used, running his lathered hands all over my body, perhaps paying extra attention to the area between my thighs.

I finished showering and donned a fresh outfit, happy for the return of my own wardrobe even if the labels weren’t high-end. As I packed my suitcase, I experienced a knowing in my heart, a sudden sense of good-bye.

Somehow, I knew I wouldn’t be returning to the human world.

Chapter 22

BRUTUS

As we headed northto the cavern, I continually scanned the forest for signs of danger. I also kept taking deep inhales. Once, I caught the scent of a cougar in the distance, and another time, a bear. But thankfully, the only human I smelled was the beautiful one at my side.

We maintained a quick pace, and while I regretted making Hailey walk so fast, I wanted to reach my people as soon as possible. Yesterday’s encounter with the two human males had me on edge.

We paused for a midday meal of berries, nuts, and atesandwichespiled with strange cold meat that Hailey had packed. In addition to the suitcase filled with her clothing and other belongings, she’d packed two large boxes that contained books, food, and bottles containing spirits that smelled like the fermented roots my people consumed. When I’d questioned her about the bottled drink that she calledwine, she insisted it was perfectly safe for her to consume.

It was heartening that she was coming with me so willingly. During our last journey from the cabin to the caverns, I’d had to carry her. I’d run through the night with her in my arms, and she’d eventually fallen asleep. It seemed like several moon cycles ago, yet it had only been days.

Perhaps it was the depth of my feelings for her that made it seem like a long while had passed since that night, the fateful night I’d approached the cabin and inhaled her sweet scent for the very first time.

Not only was she coming with me willingly, but she was bringing all her belongings with her. As though she’d decided to move her life to my people’s mountainside, as though she fully intended to make the lands of the Starblessed tribe her forever home. I prayed she would find peace and happiness with me and my people, and I also prayed she would agree to mate with me soon.

I hungered for her. Craved her beyond all reason.

Her scent alone could cause my cock to harden in an instant, my blood to hum with heated desire.

As we reached the top of a hill, she glanced over at me. Her eyes widened and her lips parted on a gasp. She’d noticed the evidence of my yearning for her.

“I cannot help it, sweet human,” I said with a slight shrug, the best I could do while carrying the boxes and the suitcase. “Just the thought of you and the scent of you is enough to provoke my desires.” I paused atop the hill and leaned close to her as I inhaled deeply. “Hm. And it would seem the sight of my erect cock is enough to call upyourdesires.”

Her lips twisted with a wry smile, and she gave a slow shake of her head. “You are quite possibly the sweetest yet cockiest…” Her voice trailed off when I suddenly looked to the west.

Montikaan males. About a dozen of them, and I did not recognize their individual scents, making me doubt any of them were from my tribe.

Trespassers. My blood boiled with rage. Human hunters were bad enough, but Montikaan foes were worse. Especially a large group of them.

“What is it?” Hailey whispered in a shaky voice.

I nodded to the east and beckoned her to follow. We would take a roundabout path back to the cavern, but hopefully we would avoid the danger. If I were by myself, I would have covered myself in damp soil and leaves to mask my scent, then I would have attempted to spy on the males. But I wasn’t by myself, and Hailey’s safety was far more important than any information I might gather while observing the trespassers.

Once we’d put more distance between us and the males, I turned to my woman and said, “I detected about a dozen Montikaans. They aren’t from my tribe. They are strangers, trespassers, and I doubt they have good intentions.”
