“She’s good.”
“What have you been doing?” Anson asks.
“We went surfing and then scuba diving,” I say, and everyone’s head snaps to look at me.
“No fair,” Rhett whines, and Anson laughs.
“What’s going on?” He asks me, and I take another bite of my sandwich.
“She hired me to go with her on this quest. We’re doing extreme things together because it was her mom’s last wish for her,” I explain.
Rhett and Anson seem a little confused about the security aspect of this. I don’t blame them.
“And she’s paying us for that?” Anson asks.
“Um, well, we never actually talked about that,” I admit.
“He’s in love with her,” Gates says when Rhett opens his mouth.
“Oh,” Rhett says like that explains everything.
“Okay, cool, man. Can’t wait to meet her,” Anson says, clapping me on the back as he heads outside.
“Yeah, bring her by for dinner soon. We’re headed out to meet a client. See you tomorrow,” Rhett says as he heads out after Anson.
“Thanks for that,” I tell Gates, and he grunts again.
“You were going to over explain everything. My way was simpler.”
I smile, following him over to our offices. He closes his door in my face, and I laugh.
“Calling Dillon now?” I ask him through the glass, and he flips me off.
His phone rings, and I see him glance at the screen. I can tell by his expression that it is Dillon, and he looks up at me, glaring.
“Shut up,” he grumbles, and I laugh as I head to my office next door.
I finish my sandwich as I try to figure out where to take Aria on our date tonight. By the time I leave for the day, I’m feeling confident that tonight will go my way.
Please, let it go my way…
SIX
Aria
“You look beautiful,”Kye tells me as he smiles at me across the table.
He’s told me how pretty I look tonight at least three times since he picked me up, and each time, my stomach flips and my whole body starts to feel too warm.
I like his compliments and his attention.
“Thanks. I’ve never been here before,” I say, looking around the restaurant.
We’re at a little Italian restaurant a few blocks from the coast. It’s charming with its ivy-covered walls and flickering candles on each table.
“I found it a few weeks ago. Gates and I came here and then realized that it was more of a date spot than a casual friend dinner,” he says, and I smile, but inside I’m wondering at his words.
Is this a date? I dressed up like it was, though I’ve never actually been on a date before. Still, I dressed up more than I normally would. Kye has been acting like it is too. Between his nice dress shirt and him picking me up.
