Christian flushed, and I wondered for a second if I’d crossed a line and what his friends would think about me making obvious references to our sex life, but then Hugo threw his head back and laughed. Lily and Jordan exchanged knowing looks and grinned.

“You can make up on your own time,” Liam said with a dry smile. “Now, if you’ll stop sticking your tongues down each other’s throats for a minute, we could finish the game. I’ve got a cake tasting to go to tonight, and then it’s date night. Ali’s taking me to a new Japanese restaurant we’ve been dying to try, and I want to get her some flowers before I go home.”

“Oh sure, we’re the gross ones!” I laughed. Christian kicked the ball to Jordan, and everyone moved to resume their positions. As Christian stepped away, I grabbed his wrist, stepping in to purr one final reminder in his ear.

“Don’t forget out challenge.”

Christian looked about ready to explode, and that made me very happy. I couldn’t wait to make him mine.

Chapter Thirty-Two

“I’d be nothing with my family and friends—they’ve always supported me, and I’ll never stop being grateful for that.”

Christian

I was vibrating in my seat by the time the Uber pulled up to my house.

Happiness and excitement were running rampant around my body, closely followed by desire. And maybe a few nerves.

I desperately wanted to get David alone so I could start showing him how much he meant to me. I hadn’t managed to get any more goals past him, although we both knew that despite David’s rule of playing properly, I hadn’t actually been trying. My body thrummed with the knowledge that I was his tonight. He was finally going to be inside me. I’d wanted it for so long that any nerves were taking a back seat to my desire.

I felt better than I had in days, maybe even months. Not only did I have David back, but for the first time in my life, I’d gotten to be completely myself around my friends. And they hadn’t cared. Well, apart from accusing me of being an overly romantic sap, but I’d expected that. I had a feeling that I’d probably be the centre of gentle teasing for a while, at least until Liam did something stupidly romantic again.

After the game had finished and we’d all started to go our separate ways, Lily had immediately grabbed her phone and started messaging someone, while David summoned us a ride back to my house. I was wondering how to politely get rid of Lily, and whether openly begging would work, when she started chatting.

“Right, I’m going to stay elsewhere tonight!”

“Oh? Where is elsewhere?” I said, trying to sound polite while internally jumping for joy.

“Just with a friend,” Lily answered, looking down at her phone and smiling happily, which was themostsuspicious thing I’d ever seen from her. People did not grin like idiots when they were just messaging friends. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d ever seen a look like that on my sister’s face. Lily had never really done relationships, but that look was so close to the one I wore around David that it couldn’t possibly be anything else.

“Just a friend?” added David, the teasing notes already evident in his voice, a gleeful look on his face. “Or more a boyfriend?”

“Partner, actually.” Lily looked up with smile. “Harper’s nonbinary.”

“Okay, partner then.” David shrugged. “And just how long have you known this lovely Harper?”

“A couple of months.”

“What?” I spluttered out. “How did you keep that a secret?” I was genuinely stunned that I hadn’t noticed. Had I really been so wrapped up in my own life that I’d failed to notice my sister falling in love? Apparently so.

“Ah, beloved brother, you are so blind,” she smirked. “Where do you think I’ve been half the times you’ve had David round? I love you both, but that house does not have thick walls, and I really, reallydon’t need to listen to you two fuck like bunnies.”

“I-I-I… I mean,” I stammered, already feeling my face burning. I hadn’t realised we’d been that loud, but it was always impossible to be quiet when I was with David. I loved letting him know how good he made me feel.

“Sounds good to me,” David said, wrapping his arms around my waist, pressing a kiss to the back of my head. “We have a lot of making up to do, and I’d hate to inconvenience you.” I groaned, turning to bury my head in David’s chest, hoping the floor would open and save me from my embarrassment.

Then David’s phone beeped, and he grabbed my hand, dragging me towards the road and waiting Uber while Lily giggled and waved us off.

“Come on,” David said, jolting me from my thoughts and opening the car door. “Let’s get inside.”

He’d been incredibly well behaved on the journey, sitting across from me and talking innocently about our friends and Hugo’s injury. But now his expression was dark and hungry, and I wanted to get him into my house and into my bed as fast as possible.

I watched the Uber drive off before turning to the house and fumbling for my keys as I tried to unlock the front door as fast as possible, desperate to get inside now that we were truly alone.

As the door closed behind us, he crowded me up against it, a dark glint in his eyes. There was already a bulge in the front of his jeans, and the sight of it made me weak at the knees. I wanted to get my mouth on him, worship him with my tongue, and show him just how much I loved him.
