“It’s yours,” I say, popping it into my mouth and leaving it there for the taking. The look she gives in return tells me I’m about to suffer.

I’ve never wanted to suffer more. Right now, I’d beg for it.

Ginger inches forward, pushing her soft tits purposely against my forearms and resting her elbows on the counter. She tilts her head slightly and looks me dead in the eyes before hers flutter closed. She leans in and brushes her lips against mine, as light as a feather, encompassing the fruit as she makes a sucking motion to steal it from me. She trails her tongue slowly over mybottom lip to steal any hint of juice, moaning into me softly. Just like she did last night.

That sound alone almost destroys me.

Fucking hell. She wins.

“So delicious,” she groans in a whisper as she sucks the piece of fruit into her mouth, before opening her eyes, flashing me a grin, and chewing the pineapple right up. Then she backs up like nothing happened and I’m left standing here, dumbfounded. I give my head a shake. Turned on by pineapple. Another first.

I make my way to the other side of the counter and she shrinks a little when she realizes I’m coming straight for her. I pull her to me with enough force to make her breath hitch, but she doesn’t hesitate. My hard cock presses into her abdomen.

“You like to tempt me, Vixen? Just remember what you said,” I whisper, drawing on every shred of willpower I have not to devour her.

She whimpers.

“My day.My rules.”

I let Ginger go, and move back to the other side of the counter, looking right at her as I call out to Mabel.

“Hey Mabes, don’t forget to pack Cowey tonight when you get your things ready to sleep at Nana’s,” I tell her, knowing Ginger has no clue we’ll be alone tonight for the first time since Vegas.

“I won’t, Daddy,” she calls back.

I grin all the way through breakfast, and all the way to the shower, because I know no one takes Ginger Danforth by surprise. And I’m quickly realizing I love to be the man that does.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Cole

“This isn’t a good look for any of you boys,” I say as I open the cell door and let out the three very hungover kids one of my deputies arrested last night for being drunk and disorderly. They’re all underage and were caught drunk and trying to piss into the sewer on Main Street.

“Will this go on my permanent record?” the youngest one asks, pushing his glasses up his nose. I can tell he’s never been in trouble a day in his life, which is a good thing. He won’t make the same mistake twice.

“No, the town isn’t pressing charges. You boys are lucky to be getting away with a warning,” I tell them.

His father, the principal of Laurel Creek High School, stands across from us, arms folded against his chest. You just know he’s going to give them an earful as soon as they leave.

I process them and send them on their way, but not before I clap the nervous principal’s son on his shoulder. I almost feel sorry for him.

“Just agree with everything he says.” I motion to his dad on the other side of the glass. I turn to all three of them. “And next time, for Chrissake find a bathroom.”

“Sorry, Sheriff Ashby,” the oldest one says, muttering to his buddy as he passes me: “My dad’s gonna kick my ass.”

A smile plays on my lips as I turn my back to them. “Be good, fellas.”

They aren’t even through the lobby before I can hear their parents giving them shit. I chuckle. Been there. Done that.

“What else do I have today?” I ask Bev when I’m back by her desk. All I want is to get home early before my swearing-in tonight.

“Well, you can either attend the two o’clock city council meeting, or take the transport to the county jail with the guy that tried to rob Menders Convenience last night.” Bev leans forward and looks at me over the top of her purple glasses. “I’d do the council meeting. Buddy in the cell relieved himself when he was coming off his high.”

I nod. “Council meeting it is. Send Brent to transport. He’ll love that.”

Bev grins without looking up.

“It would be good to show up and let the town know you’re there for them anyway,” she says.
