“But you did,” he shouted. “Go. Get the fuckout. I’ll stay away from you from now on.”

Willa stared at him a few seconds then turned, ran from the bedroom, and down the stairs to outside. Once she made it to the road, she slowed to a walk. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and she had to stop and wipe them away. Taking a deep breath, she continued toward the cabins but instead of going to hers, she headed for Rocky’s and knocked on the door. He opened it almost immediately and when he saw her, he pulled her into his arms, and into the cabin.

“Sit.” Rocky walked to the door and pushed it closed then poured her a shot of whiskey and handed it to her.

“I don’t drink,” she said as she took it then tossed it back. She coughed and set the glass down.

“What happened?” Rocky asked as he placed his hand on her shoulder.

“Devin—” She choked on a sob.

“Aww, sweetie. Tell me.”

Taking a deep breath, she told him about the conversation they’d had—leaving out the blowjob and sex, of course.

“I can’t stay with him, Rock.”

“You know, I’m with Devin on this one. Why the hell not? You’re in love with him. Even I can see that.”

“It won’t last. He’ll leave me—”

“Damn it, Willa. You have to get past what Edwin did to you. He’s an ass, and I hope the woman he’s with now does the same thing to him. Karma baby.”

“I didn’t know what to say when he told me hewas in love with me. I just panicked and told him he couldn’t be.”

“He’s a grown man, sweetie. He knows if he’s in love or not. Devin doesn’t seem the type to tell a woman he loves her for the hell of it. Shit, he already had you in his bed. He’s in love with you, and you’re letting a jackass of an ex make you suspicious about all men. There’s a spark between you and Dev. Anyone around you can feel it.”

“I never loved Edwin like I love Devin so if he left me, I’d want to die. It’s better if I just stay away from him.”

“That’s going to be a little hard to do. You signed up for activities, didn’t you?”

“I did, but I’m sure I can cancel.”

“Most of them, but the cattle drive is set up for the number of people going.”

“You told me we wouldn’t have a problem being added to the last one.” She narrowed her eyes at him.

“Uh yeah, well… I called Devin early that morning.”

She punched him. “You lied to me.”

“Yep, I did. You were moping, and I decided you needed to go on the drive.”

Placing her hands on her face, she mumbled. “You jerk.”

Rocky laughed and wrapped his arms around her. “I love you too.”

“I want to go on the trip to town too, and I know Devin doesn’t take that. I read that Chip does. I really want to see the town, so I’ll go and get my mind off him.”

“You really think that will do it?”

Taking a deep breath, she pushed away from him and stood. “I’m going to my cabin and try to sleep. I hope these next weeks fly by. I can’t wait to get home.”

After kissing his cheek, she walked to her cabin and closed the door behind her. She’d take a hot bath then hit the bed. Hopefully, she’d fall asleep and not dream of a sexy grey-eyed cowboy. The one she’d have to leave behind when this ends. The one who can’t seem to understand eventually the age differencewouldmatter. The older she got, the less he’d want her, and then he’d start looking for a younger woman, the same as Edwin had.

Chapter Eleven

Luckily, Jaxon led the cattle drive so Willa didn’t have to see Devin. It had ended as quickly as it began. Two more weeks and they were out of here. She wanted to get back to Hollywood and forget all about Devin Callahan. Blinking back tears, she knew that would never happen. He was the man she would always love.
