An hour later,we were on a plane after buying last-minute first-class tickets. I didn’t care about the price; all I knew was that we needed to get to El Paso, no matter what.

“Once we’re in there, I’m going straight for Henry,” Griffin growled, his knuckles white from gripping the chairso tightly. “I’ll tear him apart with my bare hands for what he’s done to Carmen.”

“Dude, chill,” Talon said nervously, looking around to see if any of the flight attendants heard anything.

“Count me in,” I replied, breathing hard with impatience as the plane took forever to take off. “That bastard won’t know what hit him.”

“A couple of you will focus on getting Carmen out,” Tyler reminded us as he sat behind us with his pack. “The rest of us will deal with Henry and his men.”

“Right,” Griffin muttered, though the fire in his eyes didn’t dim.

As the miles slipped away beneath us, my thoughts kept returning to Carmen—her laughter, her warmth, the way she looked at me with those mesmerizing eyes. Fear clawed at my insides at the thought of her in Henry's clutches, but I forced it down, channeling it into a fierce resolve to bring her back safely.

“Logan,” Tyler's voice broke through my thoughts, and I reluctantly turned to look at him. “When we get there, I'll lead you to where they’re most likely keeping her. But you need to be ready for anything—they’ll be expecting us.”

“Let them,” I spat, my anger flaring anew. “They won’t stand a chance against us protecting our omega.”

“Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment, or it could cost us everything.”

As we drew closer to our destination, I felt the weight of responsibility pressing down on me, along with the knowledge that the lives of my pack, Carmen, and our baby were in my hands.

. . .

Carmen

The darkness enveloped me as I slowly awoke, my body stiff from hours of uncomfortable sleep.

My heart pounded in my chest when I realized I was still in the van, captive to the alphas who had taken me. I blinked, trying to adjust my eyes to the pitch-black, but it was nearly impossible.

“Hey, sleepyhead,” a gruff voice snickered as the van door slid open, revealing two alphas wearing all black. The dry air hit my face, and I knew immediately that I was back at the alpha compound. My heart pounded harder as one of the alphas licked his lips, leering at me. “Damn, I wish I could have you for myself.”

“Stand down,” the other alpha barked, grabbing my arm and helping me out of the van. “She’s for Henry, and no one else is to touch her.”

As I stepped out onto the sandy ground, my body ached, and the reality of my situation crashed down on me.

I couldn’t believe I was back at the alpha compound, with Henry’s mansion standing before me. Fear and anxiety clawed at my insides, threatening to consume me.

The alphas wasted no time whisking me through the night and into the mansion. I half expected to see Henry greeting us at the door, but no one was at the door at this time of night.

The two alphas led me into an elevator, and I didn’t bother trying to fight them off. They were huge compared to me, and I wouldn’t stand a chance. My mind raced as I watched the numbers in the elevator fly upward. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as my heart raced. All I felt was dread at this moment and wondering how I would ever leave this nightmarish place.

We stopped on the fourth floor.

The doors opened, and they led me down a hallway. Still no Henry, thank goodness. Maybe he was sleeping, but the sun was starting to rise now.

“You will stay in this room,” said one of the alphas, shoving me inside before locking the door from the outside. I rushed to twist the doorknob, but it was too late, and now I was trapped in here by myself.

I turned, taking in the simple room with a single bed in the center and a chair next to it.

My heart raced, and I could hear my pulse throbbing in the deafening silence of the room.

I sat in the chair, trying to calm down by taking a few deep breaths. I thought about everything that had led me to this point—Tyler showing up randomly after my bath with the alphas and then Henry’s men breaking into the house.

“Why the hell is this happening?” I whispered to myself, fighting back tears.

There were no answers, only the suffocating darkness pressing in around me. My thoughts raced, desperately seeking some sort of escape or plan to get me out here. I knew that as long as I was here, my life and the life of my baby were in danger.
