“I saw her earlier today, but she said she was working on something,” Wire grumbles.
“What time was that?”
“Around 3?”
I turn and head for our room, bursting through the door. The room is empty, looking exactly as we left it, except for the open wardrobe door with her go bag missing. The go bag she uses on missions with her brothers. Her brothers who are in the common room with their women as we speak. I take a deep breath, but it does little to calm me. The memories of the first and last time she left me flood my memory. My feet move of their own accord, not stopping until I’m standing in the middle of the common room, surrounded by my family. But not the one person who completes me.
“Yo, has anyone seen Chewy?”
“She mentioned something about having an errand to run,” Ana says, rocking Chomper in his stroller.
“What kind of errand? Did she say where she was going?” My voice rises and I just know that something is wrong.
Jules is busy messing around on his phone, and I know that something isn’t quite right. “Why the fuck is she headed toward Roxburgh?”
“What the fuck?! She never said anything about leaving town. Her phone is off and her go bag is gone.” I scrub my hands through my hair. Why the fuck would she be going there? Fucking Pops, I bet he has something to do with this. “Pops!” I bellow.
“Keep your hair on kid. Shit! What’s your problem?” Pops growls.
“Fuck, you’re here. I figured it was some bullshit idea you came up with.” Fuck. If he’s here she’s on her own somewhere. Which is fucking dangerous as she has a habit of offering herself up to be kidnapped.
“Gee, thanks asshole.” Pops rolls his eyes.
I scrub my hands through my hair, trying to ignore the looks Gus and Jules share.
“She’s hunting,” Jules says aloud, Gus nodding in agreement.
“Yesssss,” Vi says under her breath, a little fist pump action going on. “What?” she asks, wide-eyed.
My fists clench and unclench. What the hell is she thinking? She doesn’t need to do this shit, that’s what I’m here for. How the fuck am I meant to protect her if she does this? I blow out a breath, aiming my gaze at the men who are my brothers-in-law. “Tell me where she is, I need to get to her, what if she needs help?”
“I saw Moss leave with her,” one of Vi’s sisters says, looking confused over what’s happening.
“What the actual fuck!?”
Before I can demand that someone call Moss, the other sister holds up her hand. “His phone is off, too.”
My big brother stands in the doorway, hands on hips, watching the whole scene go down. He turns to look at Jules, “How long do you let her hunt before you step in?”
“She knows to check in after 6 hours. Then 12, 18, and 24. If we haven’t heard from her we go in,” Tav answers.
“Well, let’s let her hunt,” Marx says, nodding.
What the fuck? No, Pres or not that’s a shit call. “But-”
“No buts, brother. Your woman is dangerous and she knows how to do this. Her methods are a little unorthodox,” My brows raise because that’s a fucking understatement. “but she always gets results. You need to trust her, brother.” Marx says, staring me in the eye.
The fight starts to leave my body. He’s right. She’s all those things and so much more. “Fuck I know all that, but she doesn’t need to hunt anymore, she has me to do it for her.”
“We love when our big, strong men do things for us, but sometimes we like to do it for ourselves,” Ana says. “Chewy is more than capable of doing this, Rhodie. Trust her. Besides, if she’s left you here, it’s for a reason.”
My shoulders slump under the weight of Chewy being out there on her own, and yet I know that what they all say is true. Chewy is fucking special, so for this moment I will trust her. But mark my words, I will be tanning that plump ass of hers when she gets home.
Chapter 2
Chewy
“OK, so once we get there I need you to keep an eye on everything from Truck Norris, got it?”
