“Shoot me,” Cortes groaned.

Much to his annoyance, Popo bobbed on his shoulder and called out encouragement and suggestions to the brawling super soldiers.

Violet bit her lip. “Sebastian’s gonna be pissed if we ruin his new jet.”

“Sebastian is the least of their problems,” Serena growled. Her dagger appeared in her hand. “I swear, I will cut you guys if you don’t pipe downright now!”

Lou cracked his knuckles, ready to knock some heads together. Chris emerged from the galley at the sounds of the commotion. His expression turned glassy. He twisted on his heels and disappeared.

The sound of a cork being popped followed.

“Is that guy okay?” Miles asked worriedly.

“This is ridiculous.” Mae threw her hands up in the air, sighed, and rose to her feet. “How about you all calm down and behave like adu—?”

A piece of popcorn hit her in the eye as she turned.

“Oh.” Tom flashed her a sickly smile. “Sorry.”

Mae lowered her brows. Magic flared around her. Everyone’s eyes locked on the crimson spell bomb above her right hand.

Popo squawked worriedly.

“Want me to put them in time out?” Mae asked Serena between gritted teeth. “Just say the word.”

Calm down, my witch, Brimstone urged.

By the time theDante 3landed in Budapest, Chris the flight attendant was mildly inebriated, Cortes had a migraine, and Mae’s jaws ached from grinding her teeth.

“I’m never getting on a plane with them again,” Vlad grumbled.

They were standing near the jet, waiting for their ride. The incubus’s expression was pinched as he watched the super soldiers innocently stacking crates and bags of ammunition a short distance away.

Lou grunted. “They grow on you.”

“So does fungus,” Cortes muttered.

A cold wind blew across the tarmac. Mae shivered.

It was nearly dawn.

She stilled a moment later, her unfocused gaze on the pale band brightening the horizon.

Vlad’s tone turned wary. “Mae?”

Mae’s pulse quickened. Heat surged through her bond with Brimstone and Hellreaver as she extended her magic outward as far as she could.

My witch, the fox warned.

Her heart sank at what she couldn’t sense. “I know.”

“What’s wrong?” Serena asked guardedly.

“I can’t pick up Oscar’s core withReveal.”

Violet traded a troubled look with Cortes and Miles. “What does that mean?”

Serena frowned at the hazy lights of the city to the north as a convoy of dark SUVs with tinted windows appeared on the edge of the airfield. “It means we’re going to struggle to find the weasel.”
