“Contain!”
Her spell filled the warehouse with a flash of red.
Regina’s colorful curses reached her dimly as the two High Priestesses found themselves trapped inside giant, crimson spheres.
“That should keep them busy for a while.” Mae glanced at Hellreaver.“Keep an eye on them.”
He bared his fangs at their friends-turned-enemy.
Mae locked in on Cortes’s core and directed her magic inside him.
The sorcerer stiffened. “This feels as…unpleasant as it did when you repaired my core.”
“Bear with it.”
Her breath caught when she brushed the source of his powers and finally perceived his Arcane Magic.
CHAPTER7
The complex goldenrunes twisted around his core, intricate, moving bands that swarmed, multiplied, and dissolved as they dove in and out of the vivid orb that was the origin of his powers.
They were akin to the tumultuous flares of energy on the surface of newborn stars and unlike anything she’d ever seen before.
His power is incredible.
Na Ri’s presence rose within her.
No wonder there are so few Arcane Magic users around, she observed guardedly as she studied Cortes’s core. His magic is constantly destroying and remaking itself. Not many humans would be able to withstand that kind of pressure on their core. Her tone hardened.Let’s get to work, Mae. This is going to take a while.
Mae braced herself as they projected their consciousness inside Cortes. The warehouse disappeared. Darkness surrounded her.
There was a sensation of speed.
She squinted when the sorcerer’s core blasted into view once more. It grew rapidly in size and brightness until it rose before them, a mountain made of pure white light.
Mae’s heart slammed against her ribs.
The heat reflecting off the mysterious golden runes was palpable.
There!Na Ri pointed.
Mae snapped out of the hypnotic daze she’d started falling into and looked where her first incarnation was indicating. Her eyes widened.
Glittering chains linked the symbols making up the writhing Arcane Magic before them, the connections appearing and disappearing almost as fast as the runes.
Mae stared. They look like chemical bonds.
I think we can study his magic if we immobilize one of them,Na Ri said excitedly.
Mae hesitated.Will it hurt him?
We won’t break it.
Mae swallowed. She watched the closest chain dissolve. Na Ri’s power swelled inside her when it materialized again. They pounced on it, crimson bubbling around their fingers.
The chain whined and fought their grasp.
Cortes’s core throbbed.
