Creed had the door of the truck open and was leaning towards me.
“Oh! I’m sorry. I am used to taking naps on shift, but not usually with two guys I just met.”
“We get it; no worries.” Creed lifted me out of the truck and held me until my legs were steady under me on the ground.
The cool night woke me up quickly and I enjoyed the feel of his hard body against mine.
Davin brought up my backpack. “I can put this in your car.”
I don’t want this time with them to end; I thought.
“Can I buy you two a coffee sometime soon? I don’t know how often you’re in town, but I’m interested in the rescue group.” There. I had a reason to see them again.
“Of course,” Creed said. “Give me your phone. I’ll put both of our numbers in there.”
I saw I had a lot of texts from Tina, thanking me for my help.
I handed over the phone. I wondered if they’d ever call. Of course I’d asked them out, so maybe I’d have to reach out to them. What if I’d totally misread this, and they didn’t share dates or weren’t interested in me?
As doubts crept in and I felt awkward, Creed finished typing into my phone, then handed it to Davin.
Davin typed in his information, then pulled me into his arms.
Chapter four
Creed
“Youwereamazing,”mybest friend was telling the tiny spitfire. “You’d be an asset to our future rescues.”
I heard a muffled laugh as Davin let her go. She’d barely come up to the middle of his chest, and I was a couple of inches taller than him.
I bent down to kiss her cheek. “Coffee would be great. Tomorrow?”
It was a calculated risk. I’d heard the tremble in her voice when she’d suggested it. She was as unsure of this as we were, and somehow that gave me confidence.
She nodded. “I’m off tomorrow as I didn’t know how long the bachelorette party would go.”
“So, how about lunch then?” Davin named a diner we liked near to the Rescue Group Inc. offices. In case Kailee was really interested in that we could introduce her there. It was never bad to have more EMTs in our network.
“Sure. Noon?”
“It’s a date.” I said, holding her gaze.
Her grin told me she was interested in this, too, with both of us.

“We need to file another complaint against the tour company. It wasn’t Andre’s fault, but there were too many people on that tour.”
Davin was wired with energy when we returned to our cabin. I’d enjoyed the peace of the cabin after the busy corporate career and then our friend’s death. But tonight it seemed kind of quiet.
Davin shrugged. “Maybe some of the group should sign up for one tour and really check it out.”
“That’s a good idea. Maybe Kailee could go with us.”
Davin stopped his pacing and looked at me. “You really like her.”
“Don’t you?”
