“I know,” she snapped.

The doors opened and closed, and Pearl didn’t make a move. The elevator started to rise again, and Declan turned to face her. They were alone with only one more stop to go.

“We need to keep things professional between us,” he said.

“That’s what you want?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

“No more kissing,” he said.

Her eyebrow arched. “You seemed to like it.”

His eyes flashed, silver shards spiking in the pale blue of his irises. “That’s the problem,” he growled.

The elevator came to a halt on the last floor, the doors slid open, and Declan stomped out into the hall. Pearl wanted to tell him to stop, to come back, to kiss her again. But she never chased anyone. She let him go.
