She rocked her hips, and Declan hissed. She was wicked, and she had completely enchanted him. Every little movement Pearl made sent rockets of pleasure bursting through Declan. He wanted to spend the entire day locked in the cabin with her.

Forget Tunnels Beach.

Forget McKenna.

Even the call of wild surf couldn’t pry him away from Pearl. He had it bad. So bad.

The sun washigh in the sky and covered by clouds the next time they awoke. Rain drummed relentlessly on the tin roof.

Pearl was lying so close that she could see every one of his flaws. He had tiny scars from the car crash that could only be seen at close range. The scars didn’t bother him. They served as a constant reminder of the mistakes he didn’t care to repeat.

“You’re better looking in person,” she said, tracing the scar on the bottom of his chin with cool fingers.

“Do you have a poster of me hanging up in your bedroom, Miss Sunn?”

Eyes twinkling, Pearl leaned down to kiss him. “At Berkeley,” she said. “But technically it was my roommate’s. It was her side of the room.”

“Medical school?” he asked. “How far did you get?”

“Three years.”

“One more and you would have been a real doctor? Wow.”

Pearl laughed softly, trailing her fingers down his arm. “Another year of medical school, then three to seven as a resident before I could get my license.”

“You would have been a good doctor,” he said.

Pearl’s hand stilled on his arm. “Thanks.”

They didn’t talk for a long time, and Declan could feel the wall building up between them, brick by brick. They were both thinking about returning to Oahu. They were running out of time. The driver McKenna had sent was probably at Tunnels waiting for them.

“Are you ready to go?” Declan asked. Circling her wrist with his fingers, he drew her knuckles to his mouth and kissed them.

She spread her hand over his cheek, stroking his day-old beard. “I can’t stop touching you.”

“That could be a problem,” he said.

Her mouth quirked in a smile. Cupping his jaw, she bent to kiss him. The kiss started out slow and then began to burn with passion.

“I can’t stop kissing you either.”

“Much bigger problem,” he said. “We better go if we want to meet the driver.”

“Would it be terrible if we missed him and had to stay another night?”

Declan froze. He wanted another night with her more than anything. “It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world,” he said.

The worst thing in the world would be for Pearl to stop kissing him now, to stop touching him.

“I’ll walk down to the store tomorrow,” he said as he kissed the corner of her mouth. “I can call McKenna and have him send someone else.”

“Will he be furious?”

“Yeah.” Declan pulled Pearl down to the crook of his arm and settled her against him. He trailed his fingers over her arm. “I’ve been thinking,” he said.

“Yeah?” she asked.

He felt her smile against his skin. “Yeah.” He cleared his throat. “I think I’m done with McKenna.”
