Warm and sleepy in Court’s tight embrace, Ididn’t even think to refuse. “Yes, I’d like that.”

Chapter Seventeen

Bran

“Evelyn?” I ducked my head into her bedroom. She hadn’t been sleeping in this room for weeks now, which was why it was thelast place I’d looked for her.

She turned from the window and smiled but therewas no denying the sadness in her face. Worry seized me and I hurried acrossthe room, putting my arms around her and hugging her tight.

“What is wrong, little human?”

“Nothing’s wrong.” She leaned against me andwe both stared at the falling snow. “I’m just a little tired of the snow andthe cold.”

“It will end soon,” I said. “Another fewdays or so and the snow will stop.”

“Yes,” she said. A tear dripped down hercheek and I wrapped my tail around her waist, squeezing reassuringly.

“Do not cry, Evie.”

“I’m just sad,” she said. “I know what itmeans when the snow ends.”

I kissed her cheek, feeling anxious andangry and a little helpless.

She turned in my arms to face me, drapingher arms around my shoulders and smiling up at me. “I’m going to miss you andCourt and,” her breath caught in her throat, “Bella so much. Maybe we can keepin touch after I leave?”

“As queen you will be busy, and I doubt theking will allow his mate to talk to other males. Besides, once you are in theking’s bed, you will forget all about me and Court.” I said.

Not used to seeing anger on her face, Ididn’t realize that’s what it was until she shoved me in the chest, pushing awayfrom me and yanking on my tail until I dropped it from her waist. “That’s areally mean thing to say, Bran. I will never forget any of you, and for you tothink that I would…”

Her voice wavered and my shame grew. “I amsorry, sadora. I did not mean -”

“I won’t forget you!” She poked me hard inthe chest and I stepped back in surprise.

Her shoulders slumped and the anger fadedfrom her face as quickly as it appeared. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have lost mytemper like that. I know that the sex between us doesn’t mean anything.”

I quickly gathered her back into my arms, dropping a kiss against her forehead. “I like that you trust me enough to be angrywith me.”

She made a laugh that was half-sob, half-hiccup,and I kissed her again. “And you are wrong, sadora. It does mean something –for both Court and me.”

I tipped her chin up, my tail circlingaround her waist again, and kissed her. She returned my kiss, her mouth softagainst mine. I breathed in her scent, my hands rubbing warm circles on herback. I would miss our sweet sadora, more than I could even admit to myself, and I didn’t think it was coincidence that Court was becoming more and moresullen with every day that passed.

I deepened the kiss, our tongues tangling together. As Evelyn began to make those soft and intoxicating sounds of need, Iconsidered urging her toward the bed. Bella would be waking soon from her nap,but there was enough time for me to eat her sweet pussy.

“Am I interrupting something?”

Evelyn and I broke apart at the sound ofCourt’s voice. Evelyn smiled at him and held out her hand. “Of course not, join us.”

“It seems you are enjoying yourselves justfine without me,” Court said.

Evelyn frowned, giving me a quick look ofconfusion. My temper flared but I held my tongue. I knew why Court was upset.I’d been very careful to make sure that I was rarely alone with Evie and mosttimes I didn’t kiss or touch her if Court wasn’t in the room with us. I also knewthat he didn’t want Evelyn to leave, just like I didn’t, and that his emotionswere starting to get the best of him.

“What’s wrong?” Evelyn broke away from meand crossed the room to Court, putting her arms around his waist. “Why are youupset?”

“I am not,” Court said.

“You are.” Evelyn pressed a kiss againsthis chest. “Tell me why?”

“I am not upset,” Court repeated.
