“Who brought you those?”
Gray turned to see Lake watching him closely. “A friend. He was checking in on me.”
“Does this have something to do about you being gone? Was he the one you were fucking?”
Gray slammed the door and spun to face Lake. “Excuse me?”
“It was awfully convenient that you were gone during your heat. I’m not a kid anymore… I know what men do behind closed doors.”
Gray frowned and stormed closer to the teen. He pointed a finger in the middle of the boy’s chest. “What I do or don’t do isn’t any of your business.”
“Whatever,” Lake spat before wandering toward the kitchen.
“No. Not whatever,” Gray said, following him. “This attitude of yours has gone on long enough.”
“You haven’t even begun to see my attitude,” Lake said from where he stared into the refrigerator.
“Oh? Really now.”
Lake pulled out the juice and drank straight from the carton before Gray walked over, pulled it from his hands, and put it back into the fridge. “You are part of a family, whether you like it or not. We all share that, and I don’t want your germs all over it.”
The teen chuckled. “Oh? Whose germs do you have all over you, whore?”
Gray was so taken aback, all he could do was stand there, mouth open, as Lake smiled and headed back to his bedroom.
Whore.
Gray fell back onto one of the stools at the island and let that word spin around within his mind—knowing it was somewhat true. He’d demeaned himself… for money… allowed another alpha to touch him… potentially fill him with a child.
A child he would have to let go.
What have I done?

What have I done?
Jamie looked in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw looking back at him. The man he loved… who loved him in return… deserved better. Rohan deserved to be loved, in all ways. It couldn’t be him, not anymore.
Hint that he doesn’t feel well. That he’s exhausted and he crawls into bed in the guest room away from Rohan.
He needs to learn to live without me.
Chapter Seventeen
Three weeks later…
After making another phone call to Avery that went unanswered, Gray drained the last of his cup, one hip resting against the counter. Worry filled him… the boy was treading thin ice.
But his emotional state wasn’t great for more than one reason. The main one sat across from him. He stared at the strips on the counter, weighing his emotions. He took another sip, only absentmindedly realizing he’d already finished the cup. Turning, he put another pot on, his back to those items that had so fully captured his focus.
Once the kettle was on, he returned to look at the sticks lying on the counter. All three showed two perfect pink lines.
He was pregnant.
One heat… with one alpha in full rut… and he was knocked up. He knew he should feel elated that it happened so easily, but he wasn’t.
While a good part of him hated what he’d done with Rohan, another small bit had looked forward to another heat. Shame nearly stole his breath… thinking of being in Rohan’s bed again. Of course, there was aslimchance the pregnancy tests were wrong. He’d know for sure the following full moon. Gray was already scheduled to return to Rohan and Jamie’s house for another round. If he didn’t go into heat, it would be a surefire sign he was indeed pregnant.
