Page 20 of His Surrogate Omega

Or the rest of Jamie’s, at least.

The thought of losing his mate…

It was enough to make him stop breathing.

“Rohan?”

Rohan lifted his stare. He felt all eyes on him. He turned to Warden, offering a bemused smile and nothing else. “Sorry, I,ah…”

Warden lifted a brow. “Do you think you’ll have time to comb through the contracts for the bid this afternoon or not?”

Rohan sighed. He planned to leave and take care of his omega. “I can take them with me when I go.”

“No,” Warden said, shaking his head. “I need you to stay.”

Rohan clenched his jaw and nodded. “Of course.” He wouldn’t argue with the man in front of their staff and a client. Warden wrapped up the meeting, and everyone exited—all but Rohan and Warden.

Once they were alone, he had his say.

“I’ll take the contracts home and review them there. Iwon’tbe staying this afternoon,” Rohan said.

“This is a multi-billion-dollar project. I need to know it’s right before I sign.”

“And I have an omega—your son—who’s getting chemo right now. You know how sick he gets afterward.”

“I pay you enough to get nurses for him. To tend to him afterwards. You’re more than a nursemaid, Rohan.”

“You really think I’m going to let some stranger hold him when he’s sick? Is anyone else going to care for him like I would?”

“You’re an alpha. You don’t tend to a sickly omega. It’s not who we are,” Warden said. “We’re the providers. If we don’t provide for our omegas, that’swhen we fail them.”

“We’re also theirprotectors,” Rohan blasted. “And Iwillshow my omega the love and care he deserves, whether you like it or not.”

Warden glared over the rim of his glasses.

“I can review the contracts as Jamie sleeps. I’ve never failed you before, and I don’t plan on it now.” Rohan sighed. “If it was your omega in Jamie’s shoes… you wouldn’t be at Wynter’s side?”

Warden sat back in the big chair at the head of the table and sighed. “If I didn’t keep Wynter in the lifestyle he was accustomed to, he would have my head.”

Rohan felt the anger swelling through him. “I realize you and Wynter don’t have the same kind of relationship I do with my omega… but I love your son more than anyone in this world.”

“Are you trying to say I don’t love my omega?”

“No. That’s not what I said. But Jamie comes first in my life.Period.And if that means I need to resign so I can go and stand by his side in the moment he needs me most, then I’ll submit my resignation here and now.”

Warden eyed him a moment. “You’re weak for your omega, Rohan.”

“I am. And I find no shame in that.”And I pity you for not being weak for yours.

Warden sighed. “You will have this contract reviewed—every line triple checked and confirmation that not one loophole exists—and on my desk by nine tomorrow morning.”

Rohan released the breath he’d been holding. “If not earlier.”

Warden eyed him again. “One of these days, this weakness of yours is going to get you into trouble. Trouble you can’t get out of. It might tear you both apart.”

“Won’t happen,” Rohan said, sliding the copies of the contracts over the surface of the table and adding it on top of his notepad. “We love each other too much for that toeverhappen.”

“Mark my words, boy. It will.”
