“You have to recall that Gray likely hasn’t been in the presence of an alpha in a good many years,” Tensen said softly.

Gray lifted his stare to the solicitor and saw the soft smile there. He was thankful someone seemed to understand, but to what extent, Gray wasn’t sure. Tensen was the lifeline in the room, and he desperately wanted to reach out and hold on for dear life.

Save me.

“Oh, I hadn’t even considered that,” Jamie said, putting a hand on Gray’s. “I’m sorry I didn’t realize. How could I be so thoughtless?”

“I can leave, if you wish it,” Rohan murmured.

The fine hairs on the back of Gray’s neck rose, and he had to close his eyes against the wave of lust that washed through him. He felt his juices slipping from him, his womb clenching. The full moon was three weeks away, yet he felt as if he was in heat then and there.

“Just… don’t talk,” Gray spat in Rohan’s direction.

“Well, how are you supposed to get to know him if he doesn’t talk?” Jamie asked.

“Can you and Rohan step outside a moment?” Tensen suddenly asked Jamie.

Jamie frowned and turned to Rohan—confusion on his face—but he nodded. He rubbed Gray’s arm lovingly before rising to his feet and trailing behind his alpha. Rohan eyed him a moment, eyes bright with lust before he, too, left the room.

Once the door was closed, Tensen opened two of the windows and let a breeze wash into the room. The air was warm, but it was as effective as a bucket of ice water. Tensen walked closer and sat down on the coffee table in front of Gray. He handed him a piece of hard candy. “Suck on this.”

Gray frowned up at the man.

“I think you’re having a case of contact heat. I didn’t expect it in someone your age—it’s typically much older unclaimed omegas who I’ve seen experience it. I’m trying to air the room some to clear his scent… the candy will supposedly help mask it a little, as well. Or so I’m told.”

Gray took the small peppermint, unwrapped it, and popped it in his mouth. “Was it that obvious?”

“Not to Jamie, I’m sure. I’m assuming Rohan likely scented you,” Tensen said. “But if he has he’s holding onto his control magnificently.” Tensen lifted a hand, as if he would brush back a few strands of Gray’s hair—but he stopped and pulled his hand away. “But then, after seeing the two of them together previously and researching his background, I wouldn’t expect any less from Rohan.”

Knowing Rohan was likely battling the same demons—and apparently winning—only made him feel worse.

Silence fell around them for a moment as Gray tried to get ahold of himself. The peppermint seemed to be helping some. He wasn’t sure if it was the power of suggestion or that it truly worked. Either way, he appreciated Tensen’s keen power of observation and his kindness.

“Thank you… if it wasn’t for you…”

Tensen smiled. “Don’t mention it. It’s why I’m here.”

“Please don’t tell Jamie how I reacted. I already feel enough shame that Rohan likely knows.”

Tensen smiled softly. “I would never embarrass you like that. I’ve done dozens of these surrogate contracts, and I’ve learned a thing or two over the years. It would never do well for him to know.”

“His alpha might tell him.”

“I have a sensation that Rohan won’t. I’m sure he’s as uncomfortable as you are.”

Gray sighed. “How in the world am I going to be able to help them if I can barely be in his presence?”

Tensen stretched his arms out and placed them on his knees. “Well, it might be difficult, at first. But once you’re pregnant, there’s little chance of it continuing.”

But then what after that? Gray had hoped to see the child occasionally. Although, it would likely be Jamie bringing the boy to the Omega Quadrant, as Gray couldn’t leave. He’d probably see little to nothing of Rohan over the coming months.

That allowed him to relax a little more.

“If you’re not comfortable and want to end the meeting, I can ask them to go. I’m a strong believer inallparties feeling safe and secure with what’s taking place. I won’t force a potential surrogate into an untenable situation.”

Gray smiled at Tensen. “You’retheirattorney.”

“Legally, I represent the babe that might come from this contract. It’s set up that way so I’m not to favor either side. I’m capable of putting an end to discussions if I feel there’s an issue that one or both parties aren’t confronting or fully truthful about. Like Jamie’s illness… I had major qualms about looking for a surrogate for them because of it. I did my due diligence because I wanted to ensure that he would be around to be a papa to the babe that came. And that a surrogate wouldn’t be left in the lurch if the worst was to come. I still haven’t given my full blessing to this agreement—although the recent news of remission is a good omen.”
