“No.” He shakes his head. “Please, no. Let me go. Please!”
“And why would we do that? Your daughter didn’t get a choice, so I don’t think you should get one either. It’s only fair, right?”
“She was just a stupid Omega!” he spits. “Useless, like her mother. Just another mouth to feed. At least being sold, she wasn’t completely useless.”
“Ahh, see, wrong answer. I really can’t stand your voice,” I say, stepping behind him and grabbing him by the hair. He shouts as I yank his head back. Duchess likes to draw out her kills, play with them a little. And while that seems like fun, I’m more eager to just end them and have one less waste of space on this earth.
So, I take the blade and press it to his neck.
“So, I think I’m going to have to do something to fix that.” Pressing firmly, I slide my hand across his neck, taking the blade with me. I hear him gargle as he chokes on his own blood. “That sound is so much better on my ears,” I sigh happily. “And, I got my answer. It does cut as smooth as butter. I approve.” I nod, looking down at the crimson liquid that drips off the silver blade, then down at the blood gushing from the gaping wound on his throat.Such a pretty red.
“You like it?” Duchess asks.
“I do.” I nod.
“Keep it. My gift to you.”
I grin. “Really? But you’ve already done so much.”
“You flatter me.” She waves me off. “So, how did it feel?”
I look down at the dead body. “Addicting. I gotta be honest with you, Duchess. I think I’m gonna wanna do this like, all the time. It feels so freeing.”
“I know what you mean,” she laughs. “And good, I like that enthusiasm. Just remember to be smart about who you choose and how you do it. Remember your training, and you're gonna do just fine. If you think you're ready, then I’ll send you out into the world.”
“I’m ready,” I say quickly, desperate to finally be able to start. “I promise. I won’t let you down.”
She pats me on the shoulder. “I know you won’t. I have faith in you, Savvy. I’m proud.”
I smile at her, an emotion I’m not familiar with filling me. It’s not one I hate.Proud. I made her proud.
We head out of the warehouse, leaving Duchess’ crew to do their job and clean up.
“Want something to eat?”
“Yes!” I groan. “I’m starving.”
“Same. A kill always gets me hungry.”
I nod. “It’s hard work.”
She laughs, shaking her head. “You're going to do great things, Savvy.”
As we drive to get some fast food, I’m left buzzing with this high. I think it’s safe to say the door to my bloodlust is now officially open, and I don’t have plans on closing it anytime soon.
I’m coming for you, Corbin. I don’t know when or where, but it will happen. Someday soon. And I’ll make sure you're my best and most epic kill. One for the books. Just you fucking wait.
