"But what a way to go."
The conversation isn't raunchy considering their current location, but it's pushing the boundaries of comfortable with his best friend's son. Especially because Gavin knows Lex, and the last thing he needs is the kid thinking about Lex in too many sexual positions. It's why he lied and said he was fucking with him about Lex sucking him dry. As soon as he said it, he knew he’d gone too far.
"So, what's your shocking news? I thought mine was pretty awe-worthy, but your dad's text has me thinking he's in a full-blown panic."
Nodding, Gavin sits on a bar stool. "Oh, he is. What's your news? That way it's not a disappointment after I tell you ours."
He playfully punches the kid. "We have two more kids in the house. Teens, actually. I took in a couple of strays, I guess," he says and pauses. "Fuck! I'm just like Lex now."
It's no secret Lex has a habit of befriending the otherwise friendless. Now that Colt has brought home Hailey and Lucas with the intent of becoming their legal guardians, he's pretty sure he's just surpassed his wife. The only other person he's taken in was Bodie, but it was a favor called in by Chicago.
"My sister's pregnant."
Every concern about being the new one to take in strays disappears from Colt's mind, and he just gapes at Gavin. "Shut up."
"Just found out earlier today."
"Where's your dad?" he asks, his eyes wide.
"Don't worry. She won't tell us who the baby daddy is."
Smart girl. The moment Ky finds out who knocked up his daughter, the man will never take another breath. He tries to do the math, but for the life of him, he cannot remember how old Gracie is.
"Wait, back up. Isn't she, like... twelve?"
"Sixteen, but much closer than I figured you'd guess."
He punches the kid again. "The same age your mom was when she got knocked up with you."
Before he can answer, Ky storms into the room, his eyes darker than Colt remembers ever seeing before. Not that he typically gazes into Ky's eyes, but this is something he'd definitely remember and notice. He has crazy eyes. The type of eyes a man about to kill another man has.
"Took you fucking long enough!" Ky shouts.
"Uh, if you'd put in the text that you're about to be a grandpa, I would've put the crazy shit going on at my house aside a little sooner."
"Yeah, moving is just so fucking crazy, huh?"
"When you have to find room for two more kids along with your family after almost murdering an asshole who needs to bathe in bleach, yeah, kind of."
Both men stare hard at each other, but Ky breaks first and shakes his head. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
"Oh, no. We are not start with me. You're gonna be a grandpa?" Colt asks, and he can't help but laugh. "Jesus fuck, how did that happen?"
"I'm going to guess the normal way," Gavin says. "You see, Colt, when you have two people with raging hormones, they tend to get naked—"
Ky punches his son, knocking him off the barstool. Gavin gracefully catches himself on the floor and bounces right back up. But despite nearly faceplanting on the floor, he doesn't seem too concerned even though jokes like these may get him very, very hurt.
"The minute I find out what little prick did this to my daughter, he's fucking dead."
Tilting his head, Colt smirks. "Isn't that the pot calling the—"
"Everyone knew she was fucking me!" Ky shouts. "They didn't like it, but their oldest was a bunny before becoming a drug addict stripper. Trust me, Felicity getting pregnant wasn't even the biggest disgrace in the family."
"Is that where Gracie got her name? She came along after you two were married, unlike me who was the catalyst for your marriage. Was she the least dis-Grace-ful thing to happen in the family?" Gavin asks, quickly moving out of arm’s reach of his father.
Colt bursts out laughing, but he tones it down when Ky clenches his jaw so tight that he could very possibly crack teeth. "Remember that you have to prospect for two fucking years, son. I can make you miserable every day of those two fucking years," he says without unclenching his teeth and making it sound even more menacing.
Diesel walks out from his apartment and stares in confusion. "Colt, you're back now?"
