But Charlie couldn’t be totally sure she’d still reach her peak and that made it not worth the risk. Plus, Sam had her too frazzled and dazed to want whatever consequence he could think of to draw things out if she didn’t obey. If he tried edging her now, she might really die from too much sensitivity. It felt like it was possible.
His hand slapped the outside of her thigh again and that was enough to force the decision to do it. “Please Daddy. Please let me come!”
“That’s my good girl.”
Normally praise like that would fill her with warmth but her mind was on other things. Pure physical carnal needs ruled the day and the way he angled his next thrust was the better reward. He stroked right acrossthatspot, the one that made her whole body go taut and then she was flying apart, exploding into a million pieces.
She lost track of the world after that. Dimly aware that Sam was still going, still thrusting. She was reduced to small whimpers as he slid in and out of her body until he reached his own completion with a bellow of satisfaction.
It took a long time to come down after that. At some point they fell asleep, curled up in each other’s arms and the whole afternoon vanished.
Chapter 14
It was a growling stomach that woke Sam eventually. He sat up, groaning as every muscle protested what he’d done to it earlier.
“Worth it,” he muttered as he slid out of bed. He looked down at Charlie, curled into a ball with a blanket pulled across one leg. She looked cold without him to snuggle with, and he carefully freed the trapped covers and tucked her in. He smiled as she immediately relaxed and spread out in the warmth.
The leftover lunch, still sitting on the table, made a handy snack to temporarily tide him over while he found something for dinner. There weren’t many choices in the fridge and the freezer seemed to be packed with containers of soup. But there was bread and cheese. It was enough.
The smell of grilled cheese brought stirring from the bedroom, so he made more. By the time he had a plate full Charlie had made an appearance. She’d taken the time to slip into some comfortable pajamas.
She looked exhausted. Actually, she looked like she’d been well-fucked. He couldn’t help the smirk that rose to tilt his mouth at one side.
Her hair was all over the place and she wore a sleepy expression that made her look innocent, and he knew she was far from that. She came up and wrapped her arms around him from the back, hugging close as he flipped the last sandwich to brown both sides.
“I’m so glad you’re home.” She sighed.
“Because I make you sandwiches?” The words had a teasing tone.
She snorted. “That too. But you always seem to know what I need to settle my head. I’ve been worried about so many things. Non-stop, all day and into the night. I haven’t been able to sleep much. Then you come home and knock me out with magic sex.”
A laugh burst from him as he moved the pan off the heat and turned to wrap his arms around her. “Magic sex? Is that what that was?”
“Yes. Because it fixed everything.” She yawned, and then seemed to reconsider. “Well, it fixed a lot of things anyway.”
He detected the slightest hint of guilt there and he made note of it. He’d been away two weeks who knew what Charlie had gotten into while he’d been gone. She’d squirmed a bit earlier when they were talking and he’d dismissed it then, but now he wondered.
Something to discuss later, not now while they were reconnecting. He’d figure out what she was hiding eventually. For now, he was just glad to be home with her.
He leaned down to drop a kiss on top of her head. Her hair smelled like strawberries, and he buried his face there for a moment, inhaling the sweet scent. “I’m glad I’m home too. Hospitals suck. I recommend avoiding them.”
Sitting across from each other at the table seemed like too much distance so they curled up together on the couch in front of the cold fireplace. It wasn’t worth the effort to get a fire going, but they didn’t really need one.
“So, we never got around to talking about the plans you had,” she reminded him, between bites of sandwich.
“Well, I got a little distracted.” He laughed and shook his head. It took him a minute to figure out where he wanted to start. “Listen I’ve been considering a few things for a while now. I always end up putting it off, but I’ve come to the realization that I’m trying to do two exhausting jobs.”
Charlie tipped her head back, frowning. “You mean the ranch and me?”
Sam gave her a confused look and then he figured it out. “No, darlin’. You’re not a job and being your Daddy is the best part of my life. What I mean is, your father always had a foreman. There were things he did, as owner, and things the foreman did. Two separate jobs.”
“That’s true. Until he got too sick to do stuff anymore.” There was pain in her voice, and Sam squeezed her gently.
“Yes, when he got sick, I took over his part too, and since then I’ve been doing it all. And it’s … a lot. I’ve always been a hard worker and I didn’t mind until you came home.”
“Me?” There was that fragile look on her face again, as if she thought he was going to blame her for something.
‘Yes, Charlie girl. You. I didn’t mind working my ass off seven days a week before because I didn’t have anything else. Now I have you. And a man with a fiancé, needs to be able to take a damn day off. I mean how are we going to have a honeymoon if I’m scared to leave the ranch for a day or two?”
