“Sam! It’s too early for spanking!”
“Well,Iwould have thoughtso… butyouclearly didn’t.” He snorted and his arm swung again, dropping a round dozen spanks across her wiggling backside without stopping.
She knew because she counted them as they fell, and she could feel each and every burning swatch he left on her bare skin. Six to each side. And then he started again with another dozen aimed lower just at the base of her cheeks.
She squealed, regretting her smart mouth. She should have known better than to push him first thing in the morning. His patience was always low before he’d gotten a few cups of coffee into him.
Sam was always short on time in the mornings. He liked things to run efficiently so he could get out the door as quickly as possible. Hedidn’tlike his schedule being thrown off with domestic discipline issues, and that was probably even more true when he had snow to deal with.
Whoops. She really should have taken that into account and kept her mouth shut. Unfortunately, it was far too late now.
She couldn’t entirely regret acting up, even if she felt guilty about it. Lately she’d been on her best behavior because she knew he just didn’t have the time to deal with it. Quick punishments like this were all the play time they’d really been getting and even those had been scarce recently.
He did seem to be trying to make a point at the moment though.
Sam made each swat count and he delivered them at a tempo that took her breath away. The crisp slaps landed hard and fast on her bare ass and all her kicking didn’t stop even one of them. He didn’t take the time to order her feet down, he just shifted her further over on his lap until her head was touching the floor.
It was harder for her to flail her legs in that position because she felt unbalanced, like she might tumble off his lap. She knew Sam would never let that happen, but it still limited her. And it was easier for him to pin her down with an arm across her thighs—which he did. He switched to the other arm and the third round of slaps fell with barely any interruption.
“Ow! Sam! Ow stop it! Damn it!” Her protests were punctuated by spanks and sounded choked. There was an element of unnecessary drama there. The spanking hadn’t come close to her limits, but cursing and yelling helped with the pain.
He ignored all the interjections and finished with that round of hard slaps before he said a word. “You about done being a brat, Charlie? Because if I get any more backtalk out of you, Iwilltake off my belt and you’ll regret it.”
On another morning she might have pushed a little further. Some part of her wanted him to continue, wanted things to escalate until the belt came off. There had been a lot of anxiety over the past few weeks and she needed the release that a real punishment would bring.
But the more mature part of her was well aware that Sam was looking at a long day ahead of him and that he really needed to get the road plowed. If the hands showed up and couldn’t get down the road safely they would turn around and go home—and be pissed they’d made the effort at all.
“I’ll be good, Sam. I was just…” She sighed and let the words trail off.
“I know what you were doing. And I know you’ve been antsy. As soon as I get Nick up to speed, I’m going to take care of that for you,” he assured her.
The tone in his voice made her shiver. He sounded… determined.
Had she been that bratty lately? She didn’t think she had. At least she’d tried not to be. They’d been so busy with all the plans and meetings that there never seemed like a good moment to throw an attention-demanding fit.
He let her go and she scrambled to her feet with a pout curling her lips. One hand went back to rub a sore spot ruefully. “Ow. Someone is cranky this morning.”
“Uh-huh and It’s not going to get better after I’ve been out freezing my ass off, so you might want to keep that in mind for later.” He leaned down and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I love you, brat.”
“I love you too, grump. I’ll get breakfast ready while you’re plowing, ok? You’ll need the energy to warm up.” Normally Sam wasn’t interested in big breakfasts. He might grab a sandwich on the way out the door, but otherwise he waited until later.
But his days also didn’t tend to begin with vigorous physical activity anymore, not as foreman. Shoveling made him hungry and she’d learned to take that into account.
“Sounds good. Probably going to take me about an hour and then I’ll swing back around before heading to the barn. I’ll need your help today if no one shows, so plan for it.”
She didn’t need the warning; she’d already figured that out, but she nodded and then he was gone. Alone she could give in to the urge to vigorously rub her stinging butt. It had been a short spanking, but he’d made every smack count and she could feel the heat settling in to stay for a while.
“Well, at least part of me will be warm,” she muttered as she went to get dressed. She assumed she’d end up outside at least once even if Sam didn’t need her, if only to keep the porch and steps cleared.
She dressed in layers with that in mind. Two shirts and a sweater over them was almost too warm for inside the house but she was grateful for them when she went into the kitchen.
Sam going out had let a lot of cold air in. The room was chilly, and she shivered as she pulled out pans.
On the rare days they did have breakfast, it was often a hearty country style meal. Eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns piled high in artery clogging glory. Today’s freezing temperatures called for something different. Some nice stick-to-your-ribs oatmeal. Not the boring microwave packets, but the real thing. It was one of Sam’s favorite things and she felt like she owed him something special after getting him riled up before he’d even had coffee.
It made her think of her father. Now and then, as a child, Jimmy would simmer a pot of it on the stove in the winter. She would wake up to the whole house smelling of the cinnamon and honey he’d used to flavor the bland oats.
It was a good memory. She could still recall how warm and comfortable it made her feel, a bolster against the cold. That would do them both some good today.
