“You’re welcome. Most of the crew has been together a long time. A lot of them as second generation. Most of them won’t start trouble, but it may take some work to win their respect. I figured any edge I could give you would help.”

“It will and I appreciate it.” Nick looked up, a serious expression in place. “Just so you know… there’s no way in hell I’m going to keep these updated.”

Sam couldn’t help it, the laughter just rolled out of him. Damn he’d needed someone around like Nick. How long had it been since he’d laughed with anyone but Charlie? Too long.

When the amusement finally tapered off, he shook his head. “Asshole. Fine don’t update it. I’ll make Charlie do it when she gets in trouble.”

“Now that’s a much better idea. Speaking of your girl… she stopped over this morning,” Nick said as he closed the second binder and settled back in his seat.

“Did she? She didn’t mention. I suppose she wanted to check in and make sure everything was okay. She’s been pretty excited about you both coming.” That explained the extra care she’d taken with her appearance. He’d wondered about the makeup.

“Nice girl. Sweet. A bit… innocent? I think Katie might have embarrassed her a bit.”

“Innocent?MyCharlie?” Charlie was a lot of things, but he’d never thought of her as innocent.

Nick looked up. “Maybe that’s not the right word. Maybe less worldly? Uh, less experienced?”

Sam’s brow furrowed as he squinted. “Not getting the picture on this one.”

Nick sucked air through his teeth, looking thoughtful. “I’m guessing she doesn’t have a lot of experience in the scene, right? I know you two have played together since you were kids, but has she ever really explored aside from you?”

Sam tipped his head, looking upwards as he considered the question. “I don’t think so… not that I know of anyway. Why?” He wasn’t really comfortable thinking about what experiences she might have had with other men, but she’d implied there hadn’t been much.

Nick chuckled. “Well, you know, Katie didn’t have any experience before me. Like zip. She knew she liked certain things in bed, but she thought it was just a little rough sex. Never thought much about extending it to a whole relationship.”

Sam settled back to listen. He had a feeling this was going somewhere, and not just two guys sharing about their relationships. “Uh-huh?”

“We dated casually for a while, and she started realizing it was more. The more we played the more interested she got until she went on a whole adventure of exploration. Going to clubs and parties, playing with other people there, while I watched of course.”

Sam’s eyebrows went up in surprise. He’d already seen some of the protectiveness between them and he didn’t think Nick would be down with sharing.

Nick shrugged. “It was non-sexual, mostly spanking scenes and I like to watch. It’s … interesting to be able to watch from the sidelines and see her reactions from that angle. That was before we were exclusive anyway.”

Sam worried about where this was going. Was Nick going to suggest some kind of group play? He remembered Charlie saying she definitely wasn’t interested, and he didn’t really feel comfortable with it either. “I remember we did a lot of that kind of casual playing at parties, but I can’t picture sharing Charlie like that.”

“I’m not saying it’s for everyone, but I learned a lot about her and what she likes that way. I think overall it strengthened our bond. But my point is Katie packed a whole lot of experience into a little time. Might say she went into a bit of a frenzy for a while where her whole life centered around kinky fun.”

Sam relaxed, laughing. “I think we experienced some of that when we first started playing too. The excitement was overpowering, and it was all we could think about.”

“Right. So, Katie has a lot more experience than Charlie I’m thinking. And she can be … well, sheisa brat, a big one. She’s probably not the best influence either. I just thought you should know there’s a good chance she’s going to get Charlie in all kinds of trouble if we don’t keep our eye on them.”

Nick didn’t sound embarrassed in the least. If anything, there was a note of pride in his voice. It amused Sam because that was so much like Nick to be pleased his wife was a bad influence.

“Eh, I’m not really worried about it. Charlie’s mouthy and a little bit bratty but most of the time she’s a good girl.” He paused and his thoughts from earlier surged.

He wanted Charlie to stop holding back and shutting down her needs. If Katie got her in trouble, then—was that really a bad thing? It would definitely spur his own need to deal with it.

“If you say so, boss. Just thought I’d warn you,” Nick said. A slight smirk tilted his mouth. “Alright, let’s get back to work. What’s next on the agenda?”

Sam set his empty coffee cup aside and stood. “Why don’t I give you the tour and introduce you to some people kind of informally. Tomorrow I’ll do an official intro first thing in the morning, but for now you’ll need to meet your back-up. Mike and Ben have been here longer than me and they’re the ones you need to worry about impressing.”

Nick got to his feet easily and sketched a teasing salute that wouldn’t have been acceptable in any military ever. “I’m ready; go on and throw me to the lions.”

Sam did and it didn’t go so badly.

Mike was friendly enough until given reason to be otherwise. He had no issue welcoming Nick to the family. Ben was more reserved, but Sam had a feeling he’d fall in line soon enough.

After the introductions Sam continued with the tour, which included braving the snow to take a look at the other buildings. Nick had questions, nothing Sam wasn’t prepared for. They wrapped it up quickly and headed back to the main barn. They had good reason to hurry, it was the only one that was heated.
