By the time he left to head home for the day it was dark outside. A bitterly cold wind whipped at him as he hurried to get into the truck. “At least it’s not snowing,” he muttered.
Maybe he’d cursed himself by saying that because by the time he parked in front of the house fat fluffy flakes were landing on the windshield, only to melt immediately. He sighed and watched them fall for a few minutes, idling in the semi-warm cab to avoid stepping out into the icy air.
He could see Charlie’s shadow backlit against the curtains as she moved around the kitchen. She was probably making dinner. The thought of her welcoming smile and a hot meal was the enticement he needed to jump out and hurry into the house.
She turned, smiling, as he came through the door, but then the smile dropped away, and she narrowed her eyes. “Don’t tell me it’s snowing again!”
For a moment, he’d been worried something serious had upset her. It took him a second to catch up and then he laughed, brushing the light dusting of white flakes from his coat. “Just a little. Hopefully it won’t go all night.”
“I’m so done with winter. I’m ready for spring.” She continued to mutter as she pulled a pan out of the oven.
“Same, babe. Same. It shouldn’t be too much longer and—that smells great. What did you make?” His stomach was already grumbling from just a whiff of whatever it was.
Charlie shot him a grin. “Nothing fancy. I actually decided to work a little bit when I got home and then I got distracted in some statistics, so I pulled a casserole from the freezer. It needs to set for a few minutes, if you want to jump in the shower first.”
He did, but he stopped to drop a kiss on her cheek. That turned into wrapping his arms around her waist and hugging her back against him. Despite all intentions to the contrary his lips found her neck and dinner almost had to be put on hold.
It took real effort to pull back. “Damn it, you’re way too tempting, Charlie girl.” He sighed and released her. He hoped his threats had been at least as effective on Charlie as they had been on him.
“I could put it back in the oven on warm and we could…” She let the words trail off but the look she gave him made it clear what she had in mind.
He considered it for a split second and then shook his head. “Tempting, but I smell like horse and I’m starving. I’ll be right back.”
What he needed now was acoldshower but there was no way in hell he was going to suffer through that after being in and out of the snow all day. No, he’d have a nice hot shower and try to ignore the sexual frustration for the moment.
His sex life with Charlie hadn’t suffered quite as much as their D/s dynamic, but kink was a turn-on for both of them. It was natural that a resurgence in Dom energy was going to lead to more arousal and more of that kind of play too.
Sam smirked as he stripped and got into the shower. He really didn’t mind that side effect at all. It was all coming together now, and he was ready for it.
CHAPTER7
Charlie was still sleeping when Sam left the next morning. She wasn’t needed in the barn and while she had papers to work on, there was no need to get up early for that. She let herself wake naturally as the room brightened.
Yawning and stretching, she could feel a delicious soreness in her body. Sam had been rough with her in just the way she liked. It had been a while since they’d had sex two nights in a row.
Their sex life was plenty active. There’d never been trouble in that department. Sam could excite her with little more than a few words and a possessive grip, but with everything so hectic recently even that had settled down a little.
Typically they fit in a few nights each week for sexy fun, but rarely two days in a row anymore. Sam never got any days off, so it was dependent on how tired he was when he got home. Since the hospital there had been longer gaps where he preferred early nights instead of romance. She understood that.
Sometimes she couldn’t resist winding him up anyway, even if it didn’t go anywhere. But she loved it when he was aggressive with her. After dinner he’d picked her up and settled her over his shoulder, carrying her off to the bedroom. It had been exciting, and fun.
Both of them had been laughing by the time he dropped her squirming body on the bed and climbed on top of her growling as he tugged and pulled at her clothes until she was naked. “I’ve been thinking about this all day, and it drove me crazy,” he said.
She squirmed under him, lifting her hips to rub against his body. “Good. You deserve it for winding me up with those threats.”
“They weren’t threats, Charlie. They were promises.” Sam nuzzled the side of her neck, nipping at the soft skin there. He shifted, moving one knee at a time between her legs so he could shove them apart.
“Is this what you meant by ‘preliminary events’, cowboy?” She could hear the breathiness in her words as excitement started to build.
He stroked one hand up her inner thigh. The tip of his thumb brushed against the soft curls that covered her sex, before moving back down— deliberate, she was sure. It sent a bolt of desire through her body.
Without thinking she shifted her legs further and canted her hips invitingly. There was a hard, demanding pulse between her thighs.
“Hmm, maybe. Let’s just say I’m determined to fix a few issues this week and if fucking you until you can’t walk straight tomorrow helps with that … I’m all for it.” He cupped her sex, squeezing possessively in one strong hand. “You’re mine, girl.”
Damn it, he was killing her with things like that. She pushed into his hand, desperately wanting his fingers to slide in between the soaked folds to find her clit.
He ignored her attempts, staring her down. “Say it, Charlie.”
