He sat back and squinted at her. “Okay, you get a pass on calling me Sam. I was lost in calculations and my name probably pulled me out easier than anything else would have. Youdon’tget a pass on your sassy attitude though. Come here, Miss Charlie.” He crooked a finger at her.

Her jeans and underwear came down with one quick yank, and then she was across his lap, bottom up. It happened so fast that she didn’t even protest until it was too late.

“Daddy! I was doing what you said.” There was a whining tone to the words.

“Did I tell you to give me attitude? I don’t remember that. One.” As he counted his hand cracked down hard. Her bottom had retained a little pinkness from the after-shower spanking and with his help it quickly darkened to a deep rosy shade.

Twenty-five swats rained down across her rump while she wiggled and squirmed to try to avoid his hand. He could have made it worse, of course. He could have sent her to fetch an implement, but it was early yet. It was only her second spanking of the day.

He was sure there would be more.

When he was finished, he lifted her to sit up in his lap. “Now, you were going to tell me that you finished up?” he asked.

She sniffled, shooting him a pitiful look. She waited for him to feel bad for her and he chuckled and patted the side of her bare thigh. Her jeans were tangled down around her ankles still.

The gesture seemed to soothe her, and she sighed. “Yes, class was good. I finished the essay too.”

“Did you bring it up so I can read it?”

“No… you didn’t say to write it by hand, so I typed it.” The frown said she expected his next response.

“Typing is fine, but I think writing it out by hand will help the words sink in. While I run down to the barn to check on a few things, you can do that.”

She sighed. “Yes Daddy.”

‘That’s my good girl. How was your quiz?”

Charlie brightened and a small smile crept across her lips. “Perfect score. We were allowed to use our class notes, so it wasn’ttoohard, but I think some people ran out of time because their notes weren’t organized.”

He hugged her. “Good job, Charlie girl. I’m proud of you.” He felt almost silly telling her that when it came to school. She was so much smarter than he was with books that ‘proud’ didn’t really cover what he felt. It was more like he was in awe of how well she soaked up her education.

Things tended to balance between them in other ways. Her book smarts didn’t always translate over to good decision making in the regular world—but they were working on that.

“Thank you! The heavy course load has been a lot, but it’s worth it to get to where I want to be sooner.”

“You know there’s no rush.”

“Yeah, but now that I’m finally studying what Iwantto study, I’m enjoying it. And I’m learning so much that will help us. The sustainability research has given me all kinds of ideas for the ranch,” she said. Confidence radiated from her.

It made him smile. He held her for a few minutes while they chatted and enjoyed the closeness. This was their day to reconnect, and it wasn’t all about punishment… but he did have a lot planned. Reluctantly he nudged her. “I better get up or I’ll be tempted to keep you in my lap all day.”

She grinned, leaned in to lick the side of his neck. He had a sensitive place just under his jaw and she knew how it made him react. “Would thatreallybe so bad, Daddy?”

He let his head fall back. His eyes slid shut and for a second, he contemplated the idea as she kissed the same spot. It wouldn’t be bad but… it wouldn’t be what they needed.

They’d end up in bed and have some amazing sex. In the moment it would be fantastic, but it wasn’t their sex life they’d been skimping on. They’d get to that later tonight. For now, he had other things planned.

“Nope, but it’s not going to happen, darlin’.” With a groan he straightened and lifted her out of his lap. “You’ve got an essay to write, and I have work to do. That does remind me though—I have a special chore for you to do later.”

A slightly worried look crossed her face. Her eyes narrowed as she stared at him. No doubt she was trying to figure out what he had planned, but she’d never guess.

He’d been working on a little project for her over the past week. In his occasional free time, he’d done some crafting. She didn’t know it yet, but she was going to finish the work. He couldn’t wait to see her reaction.

Later.

He left her at the kitchen table diligently writing out her essay, with a warning to make sure it was detailed—or else she’d be rewriting it. Redoing it after writing it out by hand wouldn’t be much fun. The reminder ensured she’d take her time and maybe flesh out any parts she’d skimped on without, him ever having to make her start over. It would keep her busy.

Things were going fine in the barn, and Nick seemed to have things well in hand, but Sam did have work of his own to take care of. Just a few small jobs that he’d held onto. They were easily wrapped up and then he went over to the workshop.
