He shook his head, "Fair. So we both love music, some genres more than others. What sports do you like?"
Gretchen smiled as she thought of growing up, "I was in soccer for a few years." She took another bite of her omelet. "I'm guessing you did basketball?"
He shook his head, "I actually played golf for several years. Then I joined a baseball team."
Gretchen smirked, "You know how to golf?"
He nodded, "I can show you sometime."
She took a sip of her juice and thought of another question, "Ok, so you did sports. Did you have any other activities besides sports in school?"
"Such as?"
She shrugged, "Math league, chess club, robotics team."
Logan laughed, "Are you asking if I have a nerdy side?"
"It's an honest question." She smirked, she was enjoying that they could have a relaxing conversation for once. It was nice.
He shook his head, "I'm sorry to disappoint, but I was not."
She shrugged, "I guess let's hope this kid gets my brain power then."
Logan chuckled.
As the day shifted into the evening, they settled into the living room. Logan had a beer. The tv's news was on while Gretchen sat on the other end of the couch clutching a cup of tea. She wasn't a massive fan of it, but she knew she couldn't have alcohol. People had said tea was nice to drink, so she was giving it a go.
As she sat there, she wondered why Logan was so friendly. He'd never been this nice to her before, not even on his really good days. The thought sent a sadness through her as he must have been this way because of the baby. He was trying to take care of her because he wanted the baby to be healthy.
She looked at him and watched him take in the news. "You must really care about this child."
He looked at her, confused for a moment. "What do you mean?"
She looked at her tea, "You're taking such great care of me for the baby. You must really care about it."
He put his beer down and scooted closer to her. "Would you believe me if I said I was doing this for you? That not everything is just because you're pregnant?"
Gretchen waited for his face to shift, for him to prove to her he didn't mean what he said. It didn't, his face remained serious, and she could only question herself.
She remained silent as she tried to think of what to do. What could she do? She didn't even know what to say as a response.
Thirty-Three
Logan
Logan couldn't stand it when he saw her looking so sad. He hated to see her eyes haze over on the verge of tears. He leaned forward and cupped her cheeks, then he kissed her.
She froze for a second before she kissed him back. He deepened it as he felt his dragon egging him on. He knew this wasn't the perfect moment, but he wanted to hold her close to him as long as she would let him.
He wrapped his arms around her as he kissed her. He pulled a hand down and grazed her thigh. After a second, she shoved him and shook her head. "No." She pushed him a few inches away, "We can't do this, Logan. The last time we did this, I got pregnant."
"Well, you can't get more pregnant," he teased. Her face quickly told him teasing wasn’t the brightest idea.
He straightened himself and leaned away. "Gretchen, what are you worried about?" He understood maybe that sleeping together wasn't the best idea, but his dragon refused to think it was. He had to admit he had behaved well for the amount of time he knew she was his mate.
She scowled at him, "You're only going to play with my heart. Don't butter me up just to rip me apart after the baby comes. I know that this is all for the child, but we have to have some rules."
He scowled, "I'm not here just for the baby, Gretchen. I'm not someone that just wants to get his dick wet. I care about you."
