Logan wanted so badly to kiss her until she was breathless again, but he mastered himself, and the moment ended. “Let’s get you inside. It’s been one hell of a day.”

Her smile was unconvincing. “Yeah.”

“This is my, um,otherhouse.” He waved to the sprawling villa as an afterthought. “I think it’s best if you stay here until we sort things out.”

She let him lead her through the double doors.

There was a mess of emotions inside her. Sorrow and relief, heartache and exhaustion, so he didn’t know how to reassure her. “I have a spare bedroom, unless…” Did he dare ask her to stay with him, after everything that had happened? “I mean, I hope it’s to your liking.”

Gretchen nodded without a word.

Only then did he remember she’d lost her left shoe. “There are new clothes and things in the closet but I can have someone swing by your house too. Is there anything, in particular, you’d want?”

She kept her gaze down and shook her head.

Her silence was killing him but he showed her to her room. “If you need anything-”

Gretchen hardly allowed him to cross the threshold before she shoved him back into the hallway. Before he could protest, the door slammed shut in his face.

Logan stood there, dumbstruck.

What now?he thought as he leaned against the doorframe, his heart pounded in his ears.

Thirty

Gretchen

Gretchen was happy that Logan came to protect her, but she was a little saddened when she realized that he wasn't there for her. He thought that she was his responsibility now because she was pregnant. He didn't do all of this just for her but for his future child. The thought made her want to cry.

Gretchen knew she needed to keep it together. Her life was in danger, and she needed protection, and he was the only person that could give it to her. It wasn't just about her anymore. There was another person involved in this situation. One that wasn't even born yet and didn't need her to cause its life to be a mess right off the bat.

She had promised that she would harden her heart and not let anything bother her. She knew this, and she needed to follow through with this, which meant she would follow Logan—lean on him for some support.

She walked around the bedroom and examined everything. She sat on the bed for a moment and allowed herself to settle into the space. This would be her room for a while, so she should get used to it.

She got up after a moment and walked into the bathroom. She liked the soaker tub and the granite sink. It matched with the one that Logan had in his bedroom.

The room was supplied with lotions and hair products. There was toothpaste and a new toothbrush by the sink. There were freshly folded towels on the rack by the shower. It made her think of a hotel, how everything was so impeccable.

She turned and walked into the walk-in closet. She froze as she took in all the clothes. Price tags dangle from each outfit. She opened a drawer seeing bras and underwear in her size.

"What the fuck?" She did a turn, shocked, a little embarrassed. How the hell did he know her size? She looked around the closet, wondering if maybe he had a guest before. It wouldn't surprise her if he had women here often.

She softly shook her head, "And I'm the one knocked up?" She had wondered if he had so many women here, why was she the first to have a child with him? Then again, they hadn't used protection at all.

She wanted to ask, but she wanted a hot shower and warm clothes more.

She showered and allowed the warm water to comfort her. She needed just a few moments of serenity before she went out and dealt with her problems. She dried off and pulled on a simple outfit of sweat pants and a baggy sweatshirt. She dried her hair with a blow dryer that was under the sink and headed out towards the living room.

She walked into the living room where she heard the sound of pots and pans. So, she then turned towards the kitchen. She walked in and froze as she saw him where he stood over the stove, "Holy shit. Logan Slade, you know how to cook?" She blinked and she didn’t believe her eyes.

Thirty-One

Logan

Logan being nervous was putting it lightly. He was outright on the verge of freaking out and losing his shit. He had no idea what to feed a pregnant lady, let alone one who was expecting to have a shifter baby.

He had googled it, trying to find good examples. Some people said light foods, and others said what the mother wants. He didn't know what the mother wanted because he didn't know Gretchen that well.
