Feeling my heart rate slow, I pick up the vaccines. In quick succession, I get them into the patient dog.
“You’re done here. You can go.”
“Cortney—”
“No. I’m done with this conversation.” I wash my hands, giving myself a second to collect my thoughts. As I wipe them dry on a paper towel, I whirl back around. “I know you won’t believe this, but Spencer has regrets. Big ones. He’s been nothing but considerate and kind since he returned. Forgiving him was easy, and if I can do it, you should be able to.”
“I don’t know how you can ask me to do that.”
“That’s okay. Take all the time you need to figure it out because I’m done talking to you.” I shove the leash in his palm and open the exam room door, waiting with arms crossed for him to pass. “Goodbye.”

Spencer
A car doorslam outside jerks my gaze up. The sight of my visitor stretches a smile across my face. Cortney looks fucking good in those lavender scrubs as she hustles across the blacktop. As she reaches for the door, I notice her frown.
Concern propels me forward, meeting her at the door between the lobby and the garage.
“What happened?”
“Did you hire someone to replace my lights at the clinic?”
I narrow my eyes. “I hope you let them in.”
“They aren’t there yet, but Bridget let your secret slip.”
“Good.”
“Don’t you think you should have asked me first?”
“You said they hurt your head. Why would I ask you about fixing something that’s causing you pain? Is that what you’re mad about?”
Her eyes flit between mine. “You know what? No. Never mind. That’s not what I’m here for.” She captures my cheeks in her palms and drags me to her mouth.
Fucking hell. I groan into the kiss. My palm flattens across her lower back as I pull her flush. Her tongue sweeps my mouth, stroking mine in a lust-fueled dance. Turning us around, I walk her backward until her back bumps up against the side of the Corolla I just finished working on.
My palm finds her ass, gripping the cheek as I hold her chin in the web of my other thumb. She hums in my mouth, the sound traveling straight to my cock. It’s been several days since I last had her, and by the way my dick thumps against my zipper, it’s been several days too long.
I barely finish my thought before she pulls away with a sigh.
Her forehead knocks against mine a touch too hard. “I accidentally told my brother about us.”
My heart gives a solid wallop against my ribs.
“Uh-oh. Which one?”
Her long black lashes flutter across her cheeks before her sad eyes meet mine. “Lee.”
A muscle jumps in my jaw. “What did he do?”
Her forehead rolls against mine. “It doesn’t matter. I won’t be speaking to him for the foreseeable future. At the minimum until I get an apology.”
“I’m sure he means well.” I stroke the strip of exposed skin at her hip with my thumb.
“He hates you.”
I laugh lightly. “I’m not surprised.”
