“I’m going to check out Cameron’s wound and then ride back to town if you’d like to come with me, Evelyn,” hesaid.

“I’d love to. I was about to leaveanyway.”

Right.

Charlie washed out the new cut on my forehead and applied antibiotic ointment. Then he offered his arm to Evie, who took it with glee, smiling from ear to ear, and they walked out the front door. Yeah, those two would definitely be late for Thanksgiving dinner. As soon as the door closed, Kate was back in my armsagain.

“I don’t know how Lola does it, you know. I have no idea how she puts up withEvie.”

I was pretty sure shedidn’t.

“Lola can handle herself, and it looks like Charlie can handle Evie as well.” I lowered my lips to Kate’s ear and whispered, “Now, why don’t you put those biscuits you brought aside and let me feelyourhot biscuit?” My hand slid between us and down to Kate’s crotch. She jerked upward at my touch, and I felt her immediate heat in mypalm.

“You’re being cheesy and acting like your brother,” she said, with half-closedeyes.

“Whichbrother?”

“At this moment, I’m not sure. You’re all sort ofalike.”

“Hey, that’s an insult. I thought I was yourfavorite.”

“You are.” She stepped up on her toes and kissed me, saying, “You always willbe.”

The little sound that came from the back of her throat made me instantly hard for her. “Feel like christening the newplace?”

“I thought it wasn’t doneyet.”

“It’s done enough. There are only a few finishing touches left. I also bought a new generator and battery we can use to store electricity from the light panels. This way we’ll have fullpower.”

I lifted her up and she let out a happysqueal.

“What are youdoing?”

“You’re smart enough to figure that out, Kate.” I carried her upstairs, straight into the bathroom. “I have a surprise foryou.”

“Youdo?”

As soon as I set her down to the floor, she gasped. “What’s all this?” She twirled around, taking in the bathroom full of roses. “Cameron? Why all theflowers?”

“I wanted this place to feel special. There’s more in thebedroom.”

“It looks beautiful. Oh! Look at the view. The windows are larger, too. This is perfect! I might want to stay hereforever.”

“I was hoping you’d like it. The shower has new jets and a rain showerhead.”

“I can’t believe you did allthis.”

“I had some help. I moved your pain killers to a new medicinecabinet.”

She turned around, gawking, acting as if she hadn’t heard me. “You put a TV in thebathroom?”

“I did. This way, if you want to relax in the tub with your favorite show, you can. Look to yourleft.”

I watched as she whipped her body once more, anxiously waiting to see herreaction.

“And a fireplace? Is that our bedroom on the other side? Are you trying to get me to stay hereforever?”
