Once we finished eating, I cleaned upour mess while Sage sat at the bar sipping on the rest of herjuice. Then I led her out to my bike and we rode to theclub.
Misti and Angel met us just inside andhustled her to the rec area where they were currently beating twoof our Prospects in a game of pool. I loved how easily a friendshipdeveloped among the three of them. It brought me comfort knowingSage had some females to talk to and she always had fun when shespent time with them. Smiling, I strolled back to Prez’s office andrapped on his slightly open door.
“What?” His short grumblemade me chuckle.
“Do you have a minute?”Pushing on the wooden panel, I stepped inside.
He glanced up from his computer.“Sure. It will save me having to text you as well. I always goof upthat group text thing and end up having to send them outseparately.” Scowling, he rolled his eyes. “What’s up?”
“Would it be alright if Iasked the guys who already patrol around Twisted Eats to do themmore often? Wasp paid Sage a little visit there today. He didn’tcome into the building, but he got really close to nabbing her justoutside. And then he sent one of his rats later on to deliver amessage that he believes she is his property and will do whateveris necessary to get her back.” As I explained the dealings fromtoday, my voice grew gruffer with each next word and the anger Ihad barely banked earlier rushed back through metenfold.
“I have no problem withthat. I’m assuming she’s here at the club right now?”
“She’s in the rec area withAngel and Misti.”
“Good. I want you and a fewof the other guys to go scope out the abandoned auto supply storeat the end of Weston Road. Word has it that some of Brutal Demons’members are meeting with a few of the local law enforcement there.Pyro Devils want to send a few of their guys with you to help out.And I want proof of their corrupt doings so I can get Chief Wolfeon our side. I don’t care to go out for a beer with the guy, buthis lumping our club in with the ones that are nothing but filth;it pisses me off. And he won’t even hear of the fact that some ofhis own men are caught up in those dirty dealings.”
“Are the other guys ontheir way here?” I was hoping to be in and out of the club tonight.Sage was tired and didn’t want to be out late. But I had a duty tothe Twisted Flames.
“They should be here inless than ten minutes.” As if reading my mind, he added. “Itshouldn’t take you guys long. I want to know what they’re up to andhear it firsthand. And to also get that proof so the police willstart giving us the respect we deserve.”
With a nod, I stepped out into thehall and walked down to the rec area to await my brothers. Sageleaned against an unoccupied pool table while Angel lined up hershot at the one beside it.
Strolling over to her, I gathered herinto my arms. Wrapping her arms around my waist, she rested herhead heavily against my chest.
I kissed the top of her head. “Can youhang in there for maybe another hour? Prez wants us to check outsomething. We shouldn’t be long. We’re just getting intel.”Hopefully we were able to remain undetected and not have to engagein any fighting.
Snuggling in closer, she released adeep sigh. “Yeah, I can handle a little bit longer.”
“That’s my girl.” I curledher tightly against me so that she barely held any of her own bodyweight while I waited for the rest of the guys. About five minuteslater, Grayson, Axel, Gage, and Boots burst through thedoor.
“I’ll keep it as short aspossible. I love you, Sage.” I pressed a kiss to her temple beforereleasing her from my hold.
Then I joined my brothers and weheaded outside. “So, everyone good with our instructions? Nostirring up shit tonight. Just getting some intel.”
“I’m sure some shit will beswirling soon. But I agree; we need more information first so thatwe’re not caught off guard.” Gage mounted his bike.
The rest of us followed suit and thenwe headed out, with Axel at the front since he was our RoadCaptain. About ten minutes later, we rolled our bikes up to a copseof trees to park them somewhat out of sight. Not even two minuteshad passed, when Pip, Twist, and Badger pulled up beside us. Thenthe eight of us hiked the last half a mile to the building so theywouldn’t hear our approach. Using shadows and trees for cover, wesnuck up along the side that had a few windows. An unmarked policecar and several bikes sat in the adjoining lot signaling we were atthe right place and had been given correct information.
With a nod, our small group spread outalong the side and listened to the exchange inside. The smallcracks in the neglected glass eased the success of our mission. Afew of us took video of the conversation between the officers andMC members and also recorded the swap of money. We would definitelyhave enough proof to get the chief of police to take some sort ofaction. Even if our evidence couldn’t be used in a court of law, itstill couldn’t be ignored and would clue him in to the fact he hadsome dirty officers in his employ and he needed to keep a closereye on them. They were scheming to push through more drugs into ourarea, planning assassinations of two of our local judges so theycould arrange getting their own people into those positions, andhad a new stash of weapons in an old warehouse about five minutesfrom here. Even though I wanted to get back to Sage, I shot off atext to our Prez, knowing he would want us to take care of theweapons situation tonight.
With a hand signal, our group treadedstealthily back to our bikes. Back at the cluster of trees, Ifocused on my brothers. “Prez wants us to check this warehouseright now.”
“He texted me the samething after I sent him what we had heard.” Grayson rubbed a handdown his face. “These guys are fucking scum and we need to hit themat their source so we wipe out every last one of them.”
I shared Grayson’s sentiment, startingwith the bastard Wasp, who, which came as no surprise, did notattend the meeting.
Heads nodding, the rest of the guysgrunted their agreement. So we hopped onto our bikes and rode outto our next stop. When the building came into view, a quick scanrevealed no lights anywhere and no vehicles parked nearby, so wecould assume it was vacant. But we knew enough not to be relaxedinto a false sense of security anytime we assumed something, so aswe approached the warehouse, our guns were drawn.
Our group spread out at the entrancewhile Gage picked the lock. Then he slowly opened the door justenough that we could squeeze through single file. Inside, we weremet with absolute silence and desolation.
Axel spun in a slow circle. “If theyuse this as a storage area; they don’t keep it here long. Thismight just be a very temporary holding spot. Or this could havebeen a bunch of bullshit. Maybe they were trying to mislead thecops?” He shrugged, his gun clutched in his hand down at hisside.
“I don’t know what tothink. I’m hoping they didn’t have a shipment here and we justmissed it.” I walked over toward the outer perimeter of the space, hoping to see some trace of activity here so that we would know wehad some lead on those bastards.
“Or they figured we wouldat some point stumble onto this place and consider it a possiblestorage place for them and they wanted to play with us.” Graysonheld up a ripped piece of paper. “You might want to see this,Ryder. Considering what you are going through with your girl; Ihave a bad feeling about this.”
I stormed over to where he stood andsnatched the scrap of paper out of his hand.
