Wait. Access to pictures. “How do you gain access to pictures if you no longer have the phone?”
“You access your iCloud.” Ben stated; his expression and tone indicating I was a moron.
“You mean with an email and password?” Anxious excitement coursed through my body until I practically vibrated with it. “Do you have a minute to show us?”
Ben shrugged. “Sure. Come to my little slice of heaven.” Following Ben down the hall, I dragged Harper along.
“What pictures do you need?” Harper pulled me to a stop.
When I glanced down at her, my epiphany written all over my face, her eyes grew huge. “Do you think we can find those pictures?” She slapped a hand to her mouth. “Oh my God. Cannon, you know what that will mean.” Her eyes welled up with tears.
“I’m willing to try anything to bring you some peace of mind. But man if this doesn’t make perfect fucking sense.”
The three of us slipped inside Ben’s cubicle. He circled around his desk while I sat down in front of it.
Harper, on the other hand, paced around the small space like a caged tigress.
I patted my lap. “I need you for information. Sit down and take a breath, Baby.”
She tugged a hand through her hair. “I don’t know how to find them. But if we did, we could stop him. We could make him pay. But I don’t know where to begin looking for them. Otherwise my brother would still be alive.”
“What’s going on?” Ben looked up from his computer.
When Harper made a pass close to my seat, I reached out and grabbed her around the waist and deposited her into my lap. Then I wrapped one arm around her stomach to keep her there and ran the hand of my other one up and down her back. “We are looking for pictures we are pretty sure exist we just don’t know where they are. We didn’t think they were in a safe or safety deposit box and now this makes much more sense. This would keep them just as safe without having to go anywhere.” I met Ben’s confused eyes. “Pictures that could indict the fucker after Harper.”
Ben smirked. “I need an Apple ID which would be an email address and a password.”
“Harper, do you know your dad’s email address? His personal one, not business one.”
“Here, type in his email.” Ben spun his computer around to face Harper.
Leaning forward, she typed at the keyboard. When she was finished, she put her hands up to her face. “I’m going to freak out and we haven’t even found anything. What if there’s nothing there?” She twisted to look at me. A whole parade of emotions marched across her face – fear, doubt, hope, and yearning were among those present.
“He has an account. Do you have any idea what his password could be? This is where it can get really tricky.”
Harper ran her hand over her face. “Try ‘harperandlena’, all lower case. Maybe he used my name and my sister’s.”
Ben typed and then shook his head. “What else do you got?”
“Then he probably wouldn’t use my brother’s name either. Those things probably aren’t good to use for passwords.” She put her hands at her temples and squeezed. “To be so close and still not be able to find anything. Although I know there’s a chance there isn’t anything there. But I want to at least be able to get in and see.”
I spun Harper around and took her hands in mine. “It’s okay. We’ll get someone here who is good at this kind of stuff. When it’s someone hired by the police, it’s not illegal. We’ll get into your dad’s account. Take a breath, Baby.”
She stared at me for a moment and for a second I worried she was stroking out. “Try ‘eight six seven five three zero nine jenny’. My dad used to sing that song to my mom all of the time because her name was Jennifer. It used to make her so mad because she hated that nickname.” Tears spilled down her cheeks at the memory. “God, I miss them so much.” She dropped her head onto my shoulder and cuddled into my chest.
I wrapped my arms around her, kissing the top of her head.
“We’re in.”
Harper jerked up at Ben’s announcement.
“Holy shit, guys.” The color drained from his face. “Come around here and take a look.” Then he put up his hand. “No, wait. Harper, you shouldn’t look.”
She jumped off of my lap so fast you would have thought my lap was on fire. Then she practically dived into Ben’s lap, leaning in to get a good look at what he had pulled up. If not for the seriousness of the situation, I would have laughed or gotten extremely pissed.
She slapped both of her hands to her mouth. “Oh my God. Keep scrolling. This is what that bastard has been looking for. They do exist and we have them now.”
Rising from my seat, I joined the two of them. When my eyes landed on the images Ben continued to bring up on the screen, I growled. Why had no one been able to stop this monster?
