His trip to Glacier Falls was only supposed to be temporary. Sticking around had never been part of the plan.

But plans could change.

ChapterFour

Hope

By the timeHope had her blood drawn and got back from town, she was ready for a nap. That is, if there were time for a nap. Which there most certainly was not.

She pulled up next to Levi’s truck at the barn and dammit if her stomach didn’t do a little flip just knowing he was inside working.

For her.

Well, not reallyfor her.But still…

Maybe she shouldn’t let him go.

Maybe the physical ache he caused every time he was close to her was the price to pay to have some help around the ranch. Hope sighed and pulled herself out of her truck. She really did need to get things ready for the wedding this weekend. And Levi was a good worker…

Dammit.

Her mind was clearly already made up. Besides, Doctor Friesen had told her to try to rest as much as possible. At least until they figured out what was wrong with her. He seemed confident that it was nothing more than a vitamin deficiency, but still. There was no point running herself into the ground while they waited to figure out what it was.

With another sigh, Hope made her way inside the barn and immediately stopped short.

“What the hell?”

The space that had been largely empty and swept clean only a few days ago had been completely reset with furniture. After each event, Hope had a habit of moving all the tables and restacking all the chairs so she could properly clean the floors and get ready for the next event—which she’d done on Monday morning. It was a monumental amount of work to move each table back into place, but it was the only way to make sure the space was properly cleaned—which was why she made it a priority. It was that kind of attention to detail that made her the best.

More than normal, Hope hadn’t been looking forward to getting reset for the next wedding. She shook her head and looked around, not quite sure to trust what she was seeing.

Maybe she was having hallucinations, too?

Hope rubbed her eyes and then laughed at herself. She wasn’t dreaming.

She was wide awake.

Slowly, she stepped inside and took inventory of what had been set up.

Ten tables.

Each with ten chairs.

A rectangular head table with seating for eight.

She didn’t even have to look at her book to know that was the right number of tables and chairs.

Hope circled the room, mentally measuring the distance between each table.

Perfectly spaced.

Everything looked exactly like the diagram she had in her master binder. Even though she knew exactly what she was doing, and had done almost every table configuration dozens of times, she still never left anything to chance. Perfection was in the details. She moved a chair slightly to the left and shook her head in wonder.

“Is it okay?”

Levi’s voice jarred her and she jumped a little before turning around to face him.

“Sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
