Hope.
Her lips yielded under his and then, miraculously, perfectly, they were kissing him back.
ChapterSix
Faith
“I’m not going to lie.”Faith stuffed a forkful of pasta in her mouth. “As much as I love having lunch with you, sis, it’s a little strange.” She shook her head and reframed what she was thinking. “Nope. It’s really freaking strange.”
Hope laughed a little, but her smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“Youhatecoming into the city and you never come during wedding season. You don’t have a booking this weekend?”
“I do.”
“What?” Faith almost choked on her pasta. “Then what the hell are you doing here?”
It wasn’t often that thetwin radarwent off anymore. At least not since they were kids. But when it went off, it was still just as strong. Something was definitely going on with her sister.
“I just had a few things I needed to take care of in the city, and everything is all ready for the event tomorrow. So…”
Faith tilted her head. She didn’t believe her sister for a minute. “It’s all ready?” She jabbed another piece of pasta with her fork and held it aloft. “You must be getting better, sis.”
“I have help.” Hope said it so quickly before she took a bite of her sandwich that Faith wasn’t sure she’d heard it.
“Help?”
Hope nodded and Faith rolled her eyes. Clearly, her twin sister wasn’t going to be as forthcoming as she would like. “What kind of help, Hope? Like you finally hired someone?”
“Something like that.” She dabbed her lip with a napkin and wouldn’t meet Faith’s eyes. That’s how sheknewsomething was up.
“Spill.” She stared across the table until finally Hope looked up. The moment she saw the sparkle in her sister’s eye, it was confirmed. Something was definitely going on.
Hope took a deep breath and sat back in her chair. “I hired someone.”
“And?”
“I hired Levi.”
“Holy shit!” Faith caught her glass of water moments before it toppled over. She was vaguely aware that other diners in the restaurant were looking their way, but she didn’t care. “Levi? Like, Levi, Levi?” Hope nodded. “Levi Langdon? Like, the Levi who broke your heart when he left?ThatLevi?”
Hope nodded, and this time, Faith noticed the little grin on her sister’s face.
“Seriously? I mean, I knew something was up when you said his name on the phone the other day.” Sheknewshe should have pushed harder when Hope wouldn’t tell her what Levi was doing back in town. Sheknewit. “You hired him? Why? How?”
Hope laughed and held her hand up to slow Faith down. “I know,” she said. “I know. I should have told you right away. It’s been crazy and so busy and…” She shrugged and dropped her hands. “I did. I hired him. Weren’t you just telling me the other day that I should hire someone?”
“Not Levi!”
Hope looked around and shook her head. “Faith, people are staring.”
“Let them.” She fixed her wide eyes on her sister. “Theyshouldstare. What the actual fuck is going on? When I told you to hire someone, I certainly didn’t mean for you to hire the man who crushed your heart and destroyed your dreams.”
Hope rolled her eyes and picked at her sandwich. “He didn’t destroy my dreams.”
“But he sure crushed your heart.”
Her sister shrugged. “Well, whatever you might think about it, it’s actually worked out really well. He’s been fantastic.”
